You are the Reason

Chapter 34

It was Wednesday and we got the day off from school to prepare for the competition.

I moped around the house in my robe all day until Julia came to get me ready.

"Now, let me find something that says 'winner'" she said digging through my closet.

"Its my voice that's getting judged Juli" I said rolling my eyes.

"Your appearance matters too- ah I found it!" She said turning around with a piece of clothing in her hands.

She held it up and I saw that it was a black skin tight dress with a zipper running from the centre to the top at the front. It was knee length so I guess it wasn't so bad.

I hurriedly took a shower doing all the necessities before slipping into the dress admiring the curves it brought out.

Julia handed me a pair of black wedges that made me look taller than my 5ft3in.

She curled my hair and put some lip gloss on me because I wasn't so fond of makeup.

She sprayed some perfume on me and stepped back to look at me.

"Gorgeous" she said grinning.

She dragged me out of the house and into her car.

My parents and Drew already left so that they could get front seats and save one for Julia also.

We arrived at school and I made my way to the backstage of the auditorium.

I saw Shane and all the other contestants preparing to go on.

When Shane saw me he froze and looked me over.

"You look gorgeous" he whispered to me when he reached where I was standing.

"You're not so bad yourself" I said grinning.

He kissed me and I put my hands around his neck drawing him towards me.

"The contest will start in five minutes!" I heard Mrs. Collins shout and I pulled away from him suddenly getting nervous.

He smiled at me and assured me.

"We'll do great, you're an awesome singer" he said and leaned in again.

But I stopped him.

"But what if I forget the words and mess everything up?" I asked worried.

"You won't, I know" he said kissing me without me stopping him this time.

The competition started in a few minutes and soon enough it was time for Shane and my duo.

We went on, I was a little reluctant with all the people that filled the auditorium but Shane held my hand and pulled me with him.

He helped me onto the piano, I was sat on top of it, and then he took a seat ready to start playing.

We got our mics and began to sing 'You are the reason' by Calum Scott.

"There goes my heart beating,
'Cause you are the reason,
I'm losing my sleep
Please come back now" I sang.

Then Shane started.

"There goes my mind racing,
And you are the reason
That I'm still breathing
I'm hopeless now"

"I'll climb every mountain,
And swim every ocean,
Just to be with you
And fix what I've broken...oh
'Cause I need you to see,
That you are the reason" we sang in harmony.

We continued like that and I was smiling by the time we ended the song.

The whole audience cheered and Shane helped me off the piano.

He then whispered to me.

"You are the reason" before we exited the stage and another performance went on.

I blushed and kissed him hard.

They called for all the contestants on stage so that the winner could be announced.

We went on and awaited the results.

Mrs. Collins took out a paper and handed it to the moderator.

"In third place we have....Cristie Jones!" He said and everyone cheered as they gave her the prizes.

"In second place is......Donovan Floyd!" He said again and the crowd erupted in applause.

He collected his prizes taking a few pictures before the suspense was back.

I crossed my fingers looking at Shane worriedly but he just smiled at me.

I couldn't believe how I scored a guy like Shane.

A girl like me and a guy like him.

I was so happy, even if we didn't win I was so happy to have shared this moment with him.

"...is Shane and Shana!" The moderator said and I blinked in confusion.

Shane picked me up and spun me around.

"We won!" He shouted kissing me and I didn't mind even with all the eyes looking at us.

I was just so happy.

We won!

In so many ways than one.

Everyone began to flock around us shouting congratulations as we collected our prizes.

I smiled when I saw Mom, Dad, Drew, Julia, Raven, Nara and Zaya run towards us to give a big family hug.

This was my family.

And I was happy the way it was.

Shane hugged me and in the moment he whispered.

"I love you"

And I grinned and had to say because it was true-

"I love you too Chicken" and kissed the life out of him.
