Everything was bright, so bright you were blinded. The light surrounded you, making it impossible to see anything but white. Even if you were blinded by this light, you could feel a graceful presence of someone next to you. Making themselves known, the presence spoke in a soft, comforting voice.
"The world around you is constantly shifting; it's colorful like an abstract painting, my love. Learn to shift with it, for if you don't, you may get consumed in its chaos."
You recognized the voice the moment you heard it. Though she was but a distant memory within your mind, you could never forget her. "... Mom?"
A playful little laugh. Oh how you missed that laugh. "I love you so, so much. Please, never ever forget that." You could hear the woeful smile in her voice as she spoke. Never have you wanted to say so many things so badly. But before you could even start, she spoke again.
"It is time for you to wake up, my darling. Do not be afraid of what happens next. I will be there with you every step of the way."
You felt a pair of warm lips place themselves upon your forehead, as tear-drops slid down your cheeks. Whether they were hers, or yours, or both, you weren't sure. All you knew was that you missed her, and wished so badly for her to stay. But, fate is a cruel thing to you, and consciousness whisked you away without your permission.
__________
You awoke with a start, teary-eyed, and not knowing why. Wiping your tears, you furrowed your brows out of frustration. I really hate how I can never remember any of my fucking dreams. I end up waking up a mess and I never have any clue why! It's complete fucking bullshit if you ask me.
"Ah! Jou are avake!"
You jumped in your seat and scrambled back, looking to your right to see the doctor from before, but without his lab coat or gloves. He was sitting back in a chair across the room, reading a book that seemed to be in German from the looks of the title. Quickly setting his book on the chair, he got up and walked towards you. You, nervous and uncomfortable with being alone with this strange man, leaned away from him. That was when you noticed your bullet wound. There wasn't one. You expected pain and stitches, but there was nothing. Not even a hole in your pants where you had been shot. "What the- how is that possible?" you said in a whisper, brushing your hands over where the hole would have been. The jeans were completely smooth, as if nothing had even happened in the first place. "Ah, jou've noticed my handivork? Quite impressive, ja?" You looked up to him with an extremely confused look on your face as the man looked over your shoulder and beamed. Well, beamed psychotically. You were starting to think that that was just how he looked whenever he smiled. "Uh- where's Miss Pauling?" Dr. Ludwig blinked and then clapped his hands together. "Ah, jes, I should probably go get her. Jou vait here for just a moment." He turned and began to walk towards the doors to leave, but right before he left, he turned back to you with a dark expression. "And ah, don't touch anyzhing vhile I am gone." After threatening you, he swiftly exited the room, leaving you by yourself. Shrinking into your seat, you felt as dread crept into your gut.
Oh HELL NAH. I am NOT fucking with that. Not even gonna try. Nope. Staying right here thank you very much. I would rather not be murdered in horrible, horrible ways. As you settled down and tried to make yourself comfortable, a pair of wings fluttered from above you and landed on your lap. It was one of the doves, but this one was slightly different from the rest. It's pale white feathers had been splattered with what you were sure was blood. You stilled, not wanting to move as the precious little dove made itself at home. "Uh, okay then." You laughed nervously and stared into the bird's eyes as it stared back. Slowly, you move your hand and gently pet it with the tips of your fingers. The dove cooed and leaned into your touch. "Well aren't you a little sweetheart." Genuinely smiling for what felt like the first time in years, you continued to pet the bird, forgetting about your current situation. It felt as if all your stress and anxiety melted away, and you felt something that you had never thought you'd feel again. But before you could figure out what exactly that feeling was, the doors burst open dramatically and the dove flew away, as it was startled by the sudden noise. This seemed to snap you back to reality as you jumped back and hastily turned to peek over the chair. Peering over at the door, you saw Dr. Ludwig had entered the room with Miss Pauling, and also another man that trailed behind. Looking at the newcomer, you thought that something felt oddly familiar about him, and when you both made eye contact, both of your eyes widened in realization.
