The city lights gleamed brightly, making the city look like an enchanted realm. To many, it would feel that way, but to you, it was your hunting ground. You had to hunt to survive, and if you couldn't, then death was guaranteed. You stalked within the darkness, making sure not to be seen. Going down one crevice and another blackened alley, you felt as if you were no longer in a familiar place. You ran out to the middle of the street, staring wide-eyed at the city around you.

The city was dead.

The lights were off and no one could be seen anywhere. It was as if humanity had disappeared, and all that remained were the skyscrapers. Skyscrapers and tall buildings. It came back to you then, that this sort of cityscape was all that you had ever known. Their alleyways were your home, and they gave you an odd sort of comfort whenever you laid down to rest. Everything was so dark, and it was so hard to move. It may be that the city was all you've ever known, but this wasn't the city you had once known. The darkness made reality shift and change, until it looked similar to the building that you resided in. You wandered the halls; everything felt so dead and dark. As you walked, the void consumed the floor and it's walls, forcing you to move with haste. Eventually, you came across your room, to which you slowly opened the door. You saw yourself, laying in bed, resting. You blinked, and suddenly you were no longer standing, but in bed where you had seen yourself. The place you were standing had a figure though. It was made up of darkness. It was you, but at the same time, was nothing like you. They looked like you, but you could never say that they were you. They shifted and changed within the shadows, becoming a horrible creature of the void. It stalked towards you, baring it's impossibly sharp teeth, ready to tear into you with it's pointed claws. It crept in closer, and soon enough, it stood right over you. You wanted to run, fight, scream, something. Anything. But you were stuck. Paralyzed with an amount of terror that could drive a person mad. But it just hung above you, as if analyzing you. Waiting until the amount of fear held within you was at its max, so it could lunge at you, and rip out your throat and feed on your flesh. It's hands- no- they were no longer hands. They were flexible and long, like tentacles, but still the metallic strain of needles. Its needles slithered towards your neck, wrapping themselves around your nape. From there, they snaked up around your face, wiping a stray tear from your cheek. For a moment, it looked empathetic towards you. But it was all trickery.

Fake.

Its mouth opened wide, revealing thousands of sets of sharp, needle-like teeth that slowly closed in on your neck and face. As its maw clenched down onto the top of your head and the bottom of your neck, you finally screamed.

And it worked.

You awoke screaming, heart beating out of your chest. Your breathing was ragged, bringing you to begin to hyperventilate. Adrenaline pumped throughout your veins, and no matter how hard you tried to calm yourself, you couldn't. You reached out and pulled your comforter closer, patting around and searching for your blanket. You couldn't feel it, which only worsened your anxiety. Then you remembered that you had lost it, possibly to one of the mercenaries. The thought that it was probably still around calmed you a little, but not much. You hugged the duvet to your chest, burying your face into it as you whimpered. A part of you expected one of the mercenaries to come bursting through your door, having heard you. But they didn't. No one showed up, and you continued to sob into the comforter, lying down on your side and curled up in a ball. You didn't know if you were glad that no one showed up, or if you were disappointed.

You couldn't tell how long it had been since you had awoken when you heard a loud banging on your door. "Cupcake! It is time for training!" With the voice being loud and gravely, you could tell it was Soldier. You groggily wiped your eyes, calling out your reply. "I- I'll be out in five!" You got out of bed, still shaking, and made your way to the light switch and flipped it on. Hurriedly, you brushed your teeth and hair and tucked your hair up so that it would be out of the way. You layered your outfit once again, wearing a tank-tops and a t-shirt, along with some basketball shorts, which you tightly bound to your waist so that they wouldn't fall down. Putting on your socks and shoes, you made your way to the door. Taking a deep breath in, you made yourself stop shaking and walked out, doing your best to make yourself feel better. He was still standing right outside of your door, and when he saw you he straightened. "Right on time! Let's go!" He then began to lead you somewhere without explanation. Huh, I wasn't even keeping track of time. Suppose I'm glad I rushed, then. After going through multiple hallways and rooms, the two of you ended up in a large concrete room. It had exercise equipment and weapons, which led you to believe it was a gym or training room of sorts. Soldier had a hardened look on his face, and when he spoke it was in an incredibly serious tone- as if the situation was grave, and that if you didn't pay attention, it could cost your life. "A soldier's most important tool on the battlefield is a gun. But, there can be situations that come up where you do not have a gun. So in order for a soldier to defend themselves, they must know how to improvise." He paced as he said this, acting as if he were a general. Turning to you, he smiled in an unnerving manner, sending a chill down your spine. "Cupcake, today you will be learning the art of improvisation!" You had a feeling he wouldn't be going very easy on you. Soldier led you over to a table, which had a variety of weapons that were made for hand to hand combat, among other things that could be used in a fight, but weren't designed for it. Gesturing to them, he spoke bluntly. "These are weapons." Grinning, he continued. "Use them against me." Your eyes widened; you definitely were not expecting that. "If you defeat me, you won't have to train with me again." You stood there, silent. How the hell does he expect me to defeat him?!? I rarely get in fights- and whenever I do, I just run just away! It's not like I can do that here! "Uh, w-" Before you could say anything, Soldier yelled out and lunged towards you, pulling a shovel out of nowhere. You- panicked and screaming as well- ducked down and dodged, using your petite frame to your advantage. You jumped away from him, quickly standing up and noticing that there was a metal pipe on the table, and it was within grabbing distance. So, you snatched it up from its place, and held it up while shifting into a defensive stance. Soldier lunged to attack you again, and you dodged again, but it was much smoother than the last time. It was as if a switch within your brain was flipped, and this all just felt natural to you. As you dodged, you used the energy and flow from that movement to transition into a hitting stance. Soldier was taken aback by your sudden confidence and was unable to move out of the way as you hit your mark, which happened to be his head. His helmet flew off, which made it easy to see his wide blue eyes, which were filled with surprise. You smiled nervously and backed up slightly. "Oh- uhm- I- uh-" You stuttered for a few seconds, not knowing whether to apologize or be happy that you actually hit him. Before you could form a proper sentence, you were silenced by a maniacal grin that spread across his face, making your blood run cold. "Strong hit, Cupcake. But you haven't knocked me down yet." You froze. From what he had said you guessed that if you were to win, you would have to put him in a situation he couldn't get out of. Perhaps even a knife to the throat sort of situation. The only issue you had was the fact that last time you used a sharp object to defend yourself was still weighing heavy in your mind, so you really didn't want to have to use a knife. He struck out at you again, and you dodged again, but just barely. Soldier kept attacking over and over, but you kept dodging, trying to formulate a plan.
