By the time you had gotten out of the shower, it was 6:30 pm, which left you just enough time to dry off and try your best to brush out your wet hair, and also pick out some clothes. You decided just to wear your pajamas, being that you probably weren't going to be doing anything else that day. Your pajamas consisted of a baggy t-shirt and sweatpants, which you had to bind tightly around your waist. You often ended up taking off the sweats later into the night, being the shirt you wore to bed was baggier than the rest, fitting you a bit like a nightgown. If you had to guess, you would probably suspect that the shirt used to be Heavy's.
Just as you finished getting ready, your watch's alarm went off, signaling that there were 10 minutes until dinner. Pulling on some fresh socks, you made your way towards the rec room to wait for dinner. Walking into the room, you noticed that Scout, Heavy, and Pyro were all waiting in there along with you. As you flopped down into the nearest couch, you realized that you had missed the fact that Engie was also in the room, and was sitting on the couch you had just decided to occupy. Luckily it wasn't a single-seater sofa, or else you would have likely jumped up and run out due to embarrassment. You still sat up straight, a little bit nervous, instead of melting into the couch's cushions like how you wanted to. Engie didn't seem to have noticed and seemed to be deep in thought about something, his arms crossed and body language closed off. His head was tilted down as well, causing his hard hat to cast a dark shadow over his face. The rest of the mercenaries were also exhibiting similar stances, having their arms crossed and looking closed off, looking like they're deep in thought with their brows furrowed. The only one who didn't have this closed-off posture was Pyro, who was sitting in a corner and playing with a lighter. A part of you wanted to join them, but at the same time you couldn't help but feel like that could be a bad idea. After the conversation you had with Demo, a lot of things were cleared up and you were happy to know why everyone was acting this way, but at the same time, you still couldn't help but feel awkward with the tense atmosphere.
Soon enough the rest of the mercenaries walked in, except for Spy, which you found odd. Your watch rung, to which you gave it a quick glance and and tapped the screen. It showed that it was time for dinner, but the thing was that dinner wasn't actually ready yet. You raised a brow at this, thinking that it was probably just because dinner was taking a bit longer than usual. While you were focused on your watch, Demo dropped into the seat next to you, making you jump slightly but relax once you realized it was him. "Oh, hey Demo." You said quietly, to which Demo nodded and made a gesture of 'hello' to you. Biting your lip, you leaned over to him and whispered. "Can't say I'm a fan of this tense atmosphere." Demo chuckled softly, leaning towards you and whispering back. "I'm not either Riddy, but they'll be tellin' ye at dinner, so that should lighten things up a little." You nodded and mumbled, "Okay, thanks." and Demo nodded before drinking from a bottle of liquor, which he had taken out of nowhere. You sat back against the couch, leaning away from Demo and his liquor. Only a minute or two passed when Medic announced dinner was ready. You recalled that earlier that day that Sniper had mentioned that Medic was making bratwurst for dinner, and being that you hadn't had the stuff in forever, you were excited to finally eat it again.
The moment you entered the kitchen the smell overflowed your senses, making your mouth water. The smell itself was a feast, so you could only imagine what actually eating it would be like. When it was finally your turn, you yoinked a few brats and placed them onto a few slices of bread that were already on your plate, along with what you were pretty sure was potato salad. You sat at the table with a glass of water, biting into your bratwurst sandwich. The brats were delectable, their wondrous savory and spicy flavors making you feel as if you were in heaven, and to top it all off, they were wonderfully juicy. You were so enamored in the meal that you didn't even notice the fact that the mercenaries were all murmuring among themselves, trying to figure out the best time to speak. You had the biggest smile on your face, swinging your legs back and forth as your eyes shone with joy. By the time you realized that you should thank Medic for the delectable cooking, you were already more than halfway through your meal. You looked up from your plate and, without thinking, called out to Medic. "Medic, my stomach and I want to thank you-" That was when you noticed how on-edge everyone was, and how much your mood contrasted to theirs. "Jes?" You stuttered for a moment, taking in the fact that everyone's eyes were on you. I most definitely did NOT read the room! AAAAAH kill me. "Th-thank you, like, a lot. For dinner and stuff, i-it's uh- really good! Hehe..." You nervously laughed, trying to ignore how awkward you felt. "Zhank jou, kind." He smiled softly, while his brows were curved upwards somewhat. His smile faded as he looked to Engie, signaling him to do or say something. "Er- kiddo, there's somethin' you should know." You looked to Engie and nodded, signaling him to continue. "A lot of us are gonna be leavin' for a uh- for a mission. About half of us. The other half will still be here, but we're all gonna be very busy keepin' everythin' here in order, so you're probably gonna be alone for the majority of this week." You nodded in understanding, saying, "Okay, I get it." as you took another bite out of your bratwurst sandwich. "But-" You quickly chewed and swallowed as a question rose from within you. "-who's staying and who's going?" Engie was taken aback slightly by your relaxed attitude towards the news but answered nonetheless. "Well, Medic, Spah, Pyro, and I will all be stayin' while Sniper, Demo, Soldier, Heavy, and Scout go." As he listed out the mercenaries he counted them out on his fingers as if having to remind himself as well. Once finished you nodded and went back to your meal, as Engie and the rest of the mercenaries relaxed slightly. But Engie still had a somewhat perplexed expression on his face. "You're takin' this a lot better than I thought you would." You looked up from your meal and noticed that Demo was looking at you anxiously, as if nervous that you would tell. You swallowed and spoke. "Well, you guys are mercenaries. You guys gotta go out and make money somehow." You laughed nervously and quickly took another bite, not wanting to have to say much else. Demo relaxed once you said this, and went back to his meal. Engie nodded and smiled slightly. "I suppose." He then went back to his meal, as did the rest of the mercenaries.
