Day 1:

Demo awoke to immediately hear words he hated with all of his might. "They died in battle." There was only one person Medic could be talking about. Soldier paused for a moment, before speaking in a defiant tone. "...What? No- they're a winner! A born and bred soldier!" Demo shifted in his cot, moving to sit up. "Please tell me I heard ye wrong, doc." Medic shook his head. "Nein, I'm afraid not.

"Y/n is dead."

Soldier frowned. "That's impossible! Malarkey! Horse crap! Come on, Demo, let's get away from this lying doctor!" Soldier grabbed Demo by the arm, not paying attention to his friend's upturned brows and depressed eye. Demo's soul was filled to the brim with loss and grief, and felt as if a massive weight was pressed onto his shoulders. A weight that he had to bear all by himself. Soldier pulled the man with all his might, practically dragging the both of them out of the medbay. Soldier was huffing, marching on as he continued to drag his friend onward and towards the bar. They entered the room, Soldier immediately going to get some beer. Demo looked up at the man, feeling fatigued even though he had just woken up. "Soldier, what're ye doin'?" Soldier grinned, but it was an unsteady grin. "I'm celebrating! We succeeded in fending off those hippie mercenaries, and nobody died!" Demo wanted to slap the man in the face, but he was too preoccupied by his own grief to do so.

Demo sighed, downing the bottle in one go. "How about ye get me some real alcohol." Soldier huffed. "Of course, American beer ain't good enough for you- never has been." Soldier mumbled a little angrily, shoving a bottle of scrumpy his way. Demo nodded, thanking Soldier as he downed half the bottle, trying to hold back the despair. But, it was no use. Demo swallowed, slumping over the bar. "Oh- god, they're gone?" The man felt like he wasn't drunk yet, and the liquor he had already downed somehow wasn't enough as grief churned within him. "Oh, come on Demo! You're better than that! What happened to my drunkard friend?!" Demo glared up at the man, mouth downturned in a frown. He was grateful for having a friend like Soldier, but sometimes the man was just too much. Soldier frowned back. "Don't look at me like that. You know I'm right!" Demo groaned, leaning his forehead against the wooden bar, lifting himself up every so often to take a swig of scrumpy. He kept to himself the rest of the night, remaining silent as Soldier blabbered on and on. The two of them ended up falling asleep, drunk off their asses in the bar.

Day 2:

Demo awoke to Soldier bursting through the doors, yelling, "GOOD MORNING DEMO!" Demo sat up with a start, panicked and stumbling over his words when he saw Soldier. He let out a tired groan, grumpy about the rude awakening. "Ye bleedin' idiot- ye scared me half to death!" Soldier grinned, chuckling. "Good! You're awake!" He set down the plates on the bar, immediately digging into his own. Demo eyed it for a moment, picking at it. He took a bite, and took a hard swallow. He then pushed his plate aside. He felt like if he ate anything, he was going to be sick, along with the fact he felt so incredibly sluggish he couldn't eat. "Sorry, Soldier. 'M not feelin' too hungry right now." Soldier gave him a look, then waved him off. "Eh, that just means you won't have any strength. At this rate, cupcake will beat you easily!" Demo frowned at the man, feeling a pang of pain go through his heart. "Don't- don't say things like that..." Soldier frowned, throwing his hands up. "Why not! Are you just embarrassed of the fact you know you'd lose a fight to a kid like them?!" Demo frowned, anger rising above his sorrow as he jabbed a finger at the military man. "Soldier, I told ye to shut tha' big mouth of yours." Soldier frowned harder, mouth turning into a scowl. "Or what?! You're not gonna have the strength to beat me! Y/n-" Demo didn't let the man finish as he struck a blow across Soldier's face, fist clenched and fury rose above the anguish. Soldier stumbled back, shocked. Demo barreled towards him, and clutched Soldier's collar in his hand, pushing the both of them so that Soldier's back was pressed against the wall. Soldier looked as if he were about to yell at Demo, but faltered once he saw Demo's face. Tears brimmed in his eye, ready to fall.
