You breathed a heavy sigh, trying to relax your muscles as you sat up, leaving the warm embrace of your bed. Dressing quickly, you put on something simple and flexible. You slid your knife in its usual spot; on your hip with the pocketed belt you had obtained a while back. You hid it underneath your shirt and slipped on your shoes and watch, heading down to the kitchen. Group breakfasts could no longer be a thing, due to everyone's excessive and nonstop work and patrols to keep the base as safe as it could be. You made yourself something simple. Eggs, bacon, and toast. You made it into a breakfast sandwich, topping it with some cheese for some added deliciousness. Anxiety settled in your core, just as relentless as it had been when the first worries had made themselves known. You ate quickly, throwing away your trash and putting the plate away as you headed to the training room. You had promised to meet Heavy there for some extra training, mainly to improve your punches and high-kicks. Usually, Soldier would do that since he's better at making you improvise, but he couldn't make it since he was on patrol.
Entering the training room, you were met by Heavy setting two bottles of water on a table near where you would be training. You called out to him, waving. His expression was serious, his expression only just barely softening upon your appearance, but hastily resumed its hardened state. Once you were in front of him, he spoke. "Are you ready?" You nodded. He helped you work on your punches and kicks in a routinely manner, critiquing your form every so often. Outside of that, the only sounds to be heard was the hard patter of your fists against his gloves and the cushion he held up for you to kick. After you were finished, the two of you made your way from the training room, walking by his side as you downed a bottle of water to replenish the hydration you had lost to sweat. Somewhere down the hall, you heard something that rose the many alarm bells in your mind. It sounded like a battering, or a banging against the outer walls. You froze in place, Heavy doing the same. "Do you hear that?" You whispered. "Yes. Get behind me." You swallowed a thick ball of saliva and obeyed, hiding behind him anxiously. Heavy stood guard in front of you, blocking you from the wall as the battering grew louder and louder, when it suddenly stopped. You waited a moment before speaking, your tone still hushed. "Maybe it was no-"
The cement wall came apart in a bang, an explosion having been detonated from the outside that sent chunks of cement and shrapnel from the rebar flying. Heavy's eyes widened at the sight, the man swiveling around to you as he put his arms around you, his back to the explosion as he took the blow to protect you. The explosion was over before it even began, a shockwave being sent out, but then curling back in on itself in an implosion and extinguishing the flame that had just been born. The bang deafened you, leaving behind a faint ringing in your ears. Heavy was on top of you, the clothes on his back shredded and charred, some lacerations and marks of irritation across the skin of his back. You blinked, groaning as you tried to bring yourself back to reality. You assessed the situation, hearing muffled laughter from the hole the explosion had created. Glancing down at Heavy, you saw that he had been knocked out, blood seeping from a wound on the back of his head, likely due to being hit by a large piece of rock or cement. As your hearing returned to you, you heard a woman speak, laughing with sickening joy lacing her voice. "Hahaha! Oh my, I love that part. Never gets old, does it?" You heard another voice, similar to the first but more masculine. "No, it really doesn't." There was laughter in his tone, the man seemingly amused. As you heard the two voices speak to one another in glee, you panicked, keeping yourself hidden underneath Heavy as you tried to wake the man up. Whisper-yelling at him, you repeatedly hit his shoulder in hopes of knocking him out of his slumber. "Heavy! Heavy, wake up!" Heavy groaned, but didn't show any sign of being knocked from unconsciousness behind the lids of his eyes. Panic coursed through you as the male voice piped up, the woman going quiet. "What was that noise?" Shit shit shit shit! I'm sorry Heavy- Fuck! You pried yourself out from underneath Heavy's body, crawling away to a turn in the hall where you could hide behind a wall. Luckily, there was a thick layer of dust and dirt that kept you invisible to the intruders. It took them a moment to find anything. "Oh, it's just some unlucky bastard that got caught in the blast." You heard the man say. The woman hummed. "That's too bad. At least we won't have to deal with him now. It's unlikely that he'll be awake, or even alive for that matter, within the next- I'd say 2 or 3 hours- after that implosion." You heard the smirk in the woman's voice. She sounded proud of herself. The man let out an amused laugh. "That sounds about right, sis. And with the way we built it, it should have been completely silent to the rest of their team. No one will know we're here." Tears brimmed the corners of your eyes, fear and a pang of sorrow going through your chest. I need to find someone. Anyone! I need to warn them before any more bad shit happens!
