Day 2:
Scout awoke, heart pounding with tubes down his throat. He gagged, panicking for a moment as he attempted to breathe. Scout tried to pull the tubes out of his throat and nose, only to be met with pain. Adrenaline coursed through him as he stood, trying to get out of bed only to fumble and trip. The last thing he remembered was being suffocated with a mask pressed up to his face, making his lungs feel itchy and mind foggy. He had passed out, and now he didn't know what was going on. Medic, upon hearing the commotion, rushed in, yelling at Scout to stop moving. "Dummkopf, stop moving! Jou're going to injure jourself!" Scout wanted to retort with a, "why would you care" but was too busy gagging and coughing. He slowed somewhat, sitting back up on the cot with a wince as Medic unscrewed a tube, before ripping all of them out of Scout's throat. Scout heaved and coughed in reaction, tossing a glare at the doctor as he rubbed his throat and caught his breath. "What the hell man?! What-" He took a look around him, spotting Heavy in a cot near him. He stopped, remembering what had happened. "What the hell happened?! Is y/n okay?! Never mind- what am I saying, they're not here so of course they're okay." The doctor grimaced. "Actually..." Scout narrowed his eyes at the man, brows downturned in irritation. "What?"
"They died during zhe attack."
Scout faltered for a moment, denying it. "What? No, that's- that's not possible. They can't be dead, you would have fixed them... Right?" There was some anger, but mainly pleading in his eyes as Medic expression saddened. "I did all I could. Their body... vas-" Scout held his hand up. "Don't- Don't tell me." Tears brimmed in his eyes, anger rising up in retaliation. "I'm gettin' outta here." Medic let out a mix between a sigh and a groan. "Scout-" Medic reached out, trying to stop him only to have Scout smack his hand away. "Don't fucking touch me!" Scout stormed out of the room, vision blurred as he ran to his safe space.
The roof.
He spent hours there, staring off into the distance as he tried to process what had happened. But he couldn't. He'd lost people before, but somehow this felt different. He sat, numb as he cradled his head in his hands, tears deciding not to show. There was a deep pit of sorrow and grief in his soul, and he didn't release it.
He couldn't. At the moment, he didn't have a clue how. There was just this immense weight he felt that made him feel slow and sluggish. Later that night, he came back down from the roof to go to his room for the night in an attempt to rest, or do something else to distract himself. As he passed through the halls, he came across a multicolored pen on the coffee table of the rec room. He stared at it for a moment, his immediate reaction being to think, Y/n might need that, I should go get it to them. Realization crashed down on top of him like a wave, that no, you wouldn't need the pen.You were gone.
He breathed heavily as his heart beat quicker- panic, confusion, denial, sorrow, and a deep agony within his soul took over him. He rushed back into his room, locking his door and immediately collapsed. Hyperventilating, he punched the ground as rivers of tears and snot came down from his face, filled with despair. He bit his lip, teeth grinding as he tried to hold in the cries and yells he had held within him, only muffled cries and yells escaping through his bared teeth. He threw his cap at the wall, running his hands through his tousled hair. He felt like shit, and knew likely all of the other mercenaries felt the same, but he did not want them to hear him this broken.
Day 3:
Scout was isolating himself, not wanting the others to see him this wrecked. They all must have been avoiding each other, since he hadn't seen the others very often, save for the few times in the halls. He had sobbed all night, the tears dying down and turning to a numb, but heavy feeling within his chest earlier that morning. Earlier that morning being around three in the morning. All there was now was this immense weight he felt that made him feel slow, and he hated feeling slow. So, he hated the feeling.
