"What the hell are ya doin' up here kiddo?"
You let out a breath of relief, realizing that it was just Scout. Turning to face him, you smirked as you returned the question. "What are you doing up here?" He pointed an accusatory finger at you, trying to think up a response before sighing. "Don't- don't do that." You laughed as you turned back around, Scout making his way over to come sit next to you. Glancing at you as he made himself comfortable, he restated his question. "Really though, what are ya doing up on the roof?" You shrugged, looking up at the sky. "Woke up feeling like I wouldn't be able to fall back asleep. And I love views like these so..." You gestured up at the sky, reaching up as if you could touch it. "... I thought why the hell not." Glancing back to Scout, you returned the question. "What about you?" Scout tilted his head to the side, rubbing the side of his neck. "Just got done with a run, but I'm still not tired." You looked over to Scout, concerned and confused. "Why were you on a run? It's three in the morning." You said the last part with a nervous laugh, worried for the mercenary. "Eh, it's nothin' bad, just can't sleep sometimes." Scout faced the sky, eyes locked on the stars. You took this as an opportunity to give him a once-over, and when you did, the bags under his eyes seemed to become much more prominent. "Just, 'sometimes'?" You stared Scout in the eyes as he turned to face you. Unable to look you in the eye for long, he glanced away. "I guess not really just 'sometimes'... but it's not horrible. I mean, I'm sitting here with ya, aren't I?" You heaved a sigh, worried for him, but you honestly couldn't say much about it. Scout's eyes were settled on his hands as he picked away at fresh calluses, when his eyes widened. He immediately got to his feet, holding his hand out to you. "I wanna show you something. I was gonna go over there anyway, but since you're here... I might as well." Raising a curious brow, you smiled at how Scout's mood seemed to have brightened so suddenly. Grabbing your journal and pen, you accepted his hand, and he pulled you to your feet, running off to another part of the roof as he dragged you along. The two of you eventually came by a shambly looking fort, made up of large pieces of scrap metal and wooden slabs, all held together by duct tape and some well placed crates. On the inside there were some towels, which made it look a bit more comfortable, along with a few wooden boxes with snacks and drinks in them, and even a little trash can for trash.
"This is a little somethin' I made awhile back, so I have somewhere to go when I can't sleep. Not saying that outside isn't somewhere but- uh, you get the idea." He crouched down, going into the fort and making himself comfortable within the sea of towels. He patted the ground next to him, gesturing you to join him. You smiled like a little kid, suppressing a giggle as you crouched down and sat on the towel covered floor. It was surprisingly roomy inside, and even a bit comfortable. "Welcome to my humble... uh... Fort! Welcome to my humble fort." Scout said this in a jokingly fancy voice, and for a moment you could have sworn he might have been mocking Spy. Chuckling, you crawled further into the fort, coming out the other side to see that there was a wonderful view of the sky from where you were. Scout followed, propping up some crates and towels, along with some pillows you hadn't noticed, to make a place for the two of you to rest your backs. When he was done, he joined you and handed over a snack bar, which you gratefully accepted. Shifting in your spot, you leaned back against the makeshift backrest as Scout did the same. Opening up the snackbar, you took a bite, realizing that it was a chocolate bar. Looking over at Scout, you rose a brow. "Doesn't sugar make you stay awake?" Scout gave you a confused look. "What? No! Or chocolate doesn't at least. I saw it on TV." Laughing a bit, you asked him, "Where on TV did you see this?" Taking a bite out of his own chocolate bar, he replied. "That's besides the point. Just enjoy the freakin' chocolate." You laughed harder, letting out an, "Okay" as you took another bite. The two of you ate in silence, enjoying each other's presence and the view. When you both finished, you sat up and brought your knees to your chest. "Shouldn't we try and go to sleep?" Scout waved you off. "Nah. I wanna be awake for sunrise. The view's real pretty, even though I've seen it a buncha times." You blinked, looking down at your watch. He was right; it was now 4:53 am, and soon enough the sun would probably rise. So you decided to stay, making yourself comfortable within the fort. You noticed that as the minutes passed, Scout seemed to get more and more antsy, fidgeting with anything he could find and bouncing his leg up and down. Since Scout clearly couldn't sit still for long, you decided to try and make small talk, so that he had something to try and focus on.
