You ended up falling asleep for what seemed to be hours, and when you awoke it was to the feeling of the camper-van slowing to a stop. Scout still sat across from you, and the moment the van stopped he stood from his seat, brushing down his shirt anxiously with a smirk on his face. He grabbed the metal briefcase from under the table, and as he did so he noticed that you were awake. "Look who's finally awake! You and your beauty sleep, you're practically royalty!" You let out a snort of laughter as you yawned, stretching. "How kind of you to regard me for my true worth." Scout let out a bark of laughter as you left your seat, unable to hold back your smirk as you went to lean against the table, Scout heading to the middle of the room and preparing to leave. Noticing this, you quirked a brow. "Where are you going?" Scout gestured to the briefcase he held in his hand. "Gotta drop this off at the warehouse. And if I'm lucky, Miss Pauling will be there!" You laughed, but that laughter faded as you realized something. "...wait... Hey, uh- Scout?" He hummed, awaiting your word. "Does Miss Pauling know I'm here?" His smile dropped as terror filled his expression. He let out a quiet, "oh crap" as he raced to the passenger seat, shouting at the two mercenaries in the front seat. "CRAP CRAP CRAP! GUYS HOLY CRAP WE ARE SO SCREWED- MISS PAULING'S GONNA FIND OUT THAT Y/N CAME WITH US AND KILL US!" A hand came from the front section of the camper, pushing Scout away by the face. The owner of the hand was Soldier, as he came out of the front row to now be in the main section of the camper. Sniper still sat in the front seat, expression unreadable since all you could see was the back of his head. "Relax, maggot! We'll be fine if you tell her it was your idea!" Scout freaking out, his hands flying all over the place in a panicked flurry as he stuttered out some random noises, trying to form a sentence. "S-Soldier- then she'll just kill me!" Soldier grinned, holding up a finger. "Exactly!" Soldier then wrapped an arm around Scout's shoulders, bringing Scout with him towards the back door of the van. "Now you get out there and show her who's boss!" Soldier opened the door, shoving Scout out and swiftly closing the door behind him, locking it. You looked to Soldier, an uneasy smile on your face. "Uh- Shouldn't you go out there with him? 'Cause if Miss Pauling is there, and she does find out I'm here... she might actually murder him." Soldier chuckled maniacally, a large grin spread across his face. "That's the idea!" You let a small "oh" letting out a small nervous laugh. You sat back down, Soldier coming over to sit with you. The two of you made idle conversation as the minutes passed when the door suddenly swung open. You jumped at the bang of the door against the wall, your eyes darting to the door to see Miss Pauling staring right at you, a somewhat panicked expression on her face as she clutched Scout by the collar in the opposite hand.
"Y/N! I-" She swallowed, glanced down to Scout as she released him, collecting herself as she looked back to you. "-I didn't expect to see you here!" You scratched your cheek awkwardly. "M-Me neither!" You let out a nervous laugh, trying to hide your neck wound. It didn't work, as her brows suddenly furrowed as she made her way over to you. She took your hand and pulled it from your neck, and not wanting any harm to come to your hand, you let her. "Y/N, what happened? Did-" She delicately removed the bandage, causing you to hold back a wince due to its soreness and the stinging feeling of the medical tape sticking to your neck. She squinted, inspecting the wound. "-Did a bullet scrape your neck?" A bead of sweat rolled down the side of your cheek as you smiled, trying to reassure her even if your ulterior motive was to keep her from killing Scout, or any of the other mercenaries. "Maybe- but so what if it did?! It's fine! I'm fine! Really! If anything, the reason I got this was all my fault, and in no way any of the mercenaries' faults." You chuckled nervously. Miss Pauling held a concerned expression as she sighed, removing the bandage fully. "Well, since you're here, I might as well take a good look at it." She held her hand out, gesturing for you to take it. You did, and as she led you towards the exit of the camper, Scout cleared his throat to get Miss Pauling's attention. Her expression turned sour as she rolled her eyes, looking back at the boy. "Yes, Scout?" He smiled anxiously. "Uh- Heh- could you check out my injuries, while you're at it?" Soldier gave Scout a mean look, glaring down at him as he gave him a hidden but also not so hidden punch to the shoulder. Scout coughed, trying to act as if he hadn't felt it as he spoke again, correcting himself. "Actually- could you check out all of our injuries? P-please?" Scout chuckled nervously, hoping the woman would take pity on him. Her expression was neutral as she looked at Scout with a hardened glare. "You're mercenaries, Scout. You can take care of yourselves." She then turned back around, leading you out without another word. Before you left, you looked back to Scout and his disheartened expression and grimaced, mouthing an, "I'm sorry" back to him as she led you away from the camper.
