You awoke to the sound of knocking at your door, some faint whispering being heard as well. You couldn't process whose voice it was, so without question, you opened the door, giving whoever was knocking a tired death glare. It was Scout, who made your icy stare drop into an expression of confusion. Before you could ask any questions, Scout made himself welcome and entered the room, leaving you to shut the door behind him. Scout was talking an awful lot, blabbering away as you continued to register it all as gibberish. Going over to your watch, you lifted it to your eyes as you squinted, reading out the time '4:47 am.' Doing a double-take, you re-read the time, turning to face Scout once you had and whisper-yelled at him, interrupting whatever he was trying to talk to you about. "Scout, why the hell are you in my room at four in the morning?!" Scout gave you a dumb look, rolling his eyes as if it were obvious. "Uh- you're gonna go on a run with me? Didn't I already tell you that? You gotta pay better attention there kiddo." You raised a brow, giving him a 'look.' Groaning, you waved him out of the room as you remembered yesterday's events and the argument between him and Heavy. You just wanted to get with torture out of the way. "Fine- I'll run with you, just let me get ready." He looked back at you with a surprised expression on his face, overjoyed at the fact that you actually agreed to run with him. "R-Really?! Aw yeah, let's go!" You shoved him out of your room, shutting the door behind him. You let out a breath of air, rubbing the sleep out of your eyes. Welp, better get on with it then. At least I'm a decent runner, so this probably won't be horrible.

Hopefully.

You went through your usual morning routine, not caring about how long it took to get ready since Scout had decided to be so rude when waking you up. Digging through all of the clothes you had organized, you decided to wear some work-out pants and a comfy t-shirt, digging out a cap just to mess with Scout. Pulling on some socks and tennis shoes, you grabbed your watch and headed out. Exiting your room, you looked out to see Scout leaning up against the wall, the light from within your room gaining his attention. When he saw your cap, he chuckled and flicked the brim of it, saying, "Nice hat kiddo, now come on, let's go!" Turning off your lights and closing the door, you began to follow Scout when he decided that you were going too slow, so he grabbed your wrist and dragged you along as he ran out the nearest exit. Since it was still early, some stars were still able to be seen, some light seeping through along the horizon due to the soon rising sun. When seeing the sky, the first thing you thought was, I gotta find a way up to the roof. I would love to be able to see this sky at night. Being that you lived most of your life within areas that were filled with light pollution, you rarely got views like this, save for the few times you went through small villages and the farmlands. "Quite the view, ay?" You looked back at Scout, realizing that your attention had been caught so severely by the sky. Scout laughed, and said, "Come on, let's run!" as he sped off, you running along with him as you tried to keep up. You were fast, but with his superiorly longer legs, he was able to stay ahead easily. Luckily, he did slow to a jog so that you could run alongside him. That was when he pulled a cassette player out of his pocket, unplugging a pair of headphones from it. Your eyes widened when you recognized it as the cassette player that you had played while you worked out. Pointing at it, you asked him, "Is that yours?" to which he glanced back at you and nodded. "Yeah, why?" Taking a quick gulp of air, you continued, "I played it while I worked out, it's a really good playlist." For a split second, a part of you thought that he might get upset for you using it, but instead, he smiled, and how wholesome the smile was, instead of his regular smirk or snarky smile. "You really liked it?" You nodded, saying, "Yeah! Of course I did!" As you both continued to run, his smile never faltered as he played the cassette, letting it play loudly so that the two of you could listen to it.

You guys did around two laps around the base when you had to stop, your sore legs and aching lungs grateful for your decision. Scout stopped as well so that you weren't alone during your break. Breathing heavily, you looked up to him, asking him, "Do you have any water?" between your loud pants and wheezing. "Oh, yeah, of course I do! Gimme a sec." Taking off his small backpack, he took out a metallic water bottle, taking a few sips from it himself before passing it to you. "You know what a 'birdie' is right?" You nodded, standing up straight before gently pouring the water into your mouth. He stretched as you did this, taking the water bottle from you when you were done with it. You guys took about a five-minute break, not saying anything so that you could catch your breath when Scout finally spoke up. "Wanna race?" You looked at him with a sarcastic expression, raising a brow. "You know I'd lose." He smirked as if he knew this, but liked getting acknowledgment of the fact from you. "Yeah, probably... But what if I gave ya a headstart?" Giving him a questioning look, you asked the defining question. "How much of a headstart are we talking about?" He shook his head from side to side as if weighing the options to try and decide what he felt like would be best. "Ehhhhhh how about-." He pointed along the side of the base, aiming towards a pipeline along the side of the base's walls. "-when you get there, I start running?" You thought about it for a moment but then nodded, agreeing to his terms. I'm sure either way he's gonna beat me, but it's fine either way. At least he's having fun. "Aw, yeah! Okay, race to the corner?" You nodded again, getting into a starting position. The length of the wall to the corner was long, and the pipeline resided around the halfway point, so when you thought about it, you weren't actually so sure if you'd win or lose. "Ready.... Get Set... GO!" You took off at a running start, saving your sprinting energy for when he caught up, so at least then you'd feel a bit better about the possibility of winning.
