(I'm slowly editing this book btw)

Aurelia McKinley stared down the bleak corridor as two guards marched her down, the only remotely interesting sight being the large window at the very end, revealing the sight of the moon as it shone brightly in the distance.

“Can I at least see the moon one last time?” Aura questioned as guards dragged her along harshly.

“You’re going to your trial, not your execution. There’s time for your final wishes later.”

“Jerk,” the raven-haired girl muttered as they walked her into an unfamiliar room. Her eyes fell on the long table running down the side, the members of the council situated along it with Chancellor Jaha sitting in the middle.

“Oh look, it’s the whole scooby gang.” All she got were deadpan stares, the room completely silent. “Tough crowd.” She walked onto the small elevated platform and casually leaned her arms against the metal railing, waiting for someone to say talk.

She watched as Marcus Kane stood up and gestured towards the girl. “This case concerns prisoner thirty-two, arrested on July 12th, 2145. Her crime: stealing clothes.” He sat back down, and Aura’s eyes moved over to Jaha’s.

“Miss McKinley,” Jaha began, his eyes planted on the document in front of him. “You were arrested for stealing clothes, correct?”

The girl stared at him dumbfoundedly. “Isn’t that what he just said?”

“Answer the question,” Kane warned, to which she rolled her eyes, her arms still leaning against the railing.

“Yes, I stole clothes.”

“And why did you steal them?”

“So I could make a voodoo doll with them.” she responded with a sarcastic smile, much to the council’s dismay. “Why do you think dumbass? So I could wear them.”

“Mind your language, Miss McKinley,” Kane warned again, “Or you’re going straight into the airlock.”

“Hey, feel free.”

“Don’t mind her,” Jaha directed towards Kane. He looked back towards her. “It’s clear her only crime is being incredibly annoying. Clear her charges.”

“What!” Aurelia exclaimed as her form straightened. “No, I’m guilty! Float me!”

“Your crime isn’t serious enough for that,” Jaha responded, a neutral look still on his face.”

Aurelia stared at him before looking around the room, her eyes falling on the guard standing close to her. Before anyone could react, she reached forward and punched him straight in the face. Another guard rushed forward to restrain her as the other clutched his nose in pain.
