The camp was surprisingly quiet considering the circumstances. Just a few hours earlier there had been riots, but now everyone seemed to be getting along, united by the combined urge to survive against the grounder army. Then again, half the camp was also passed out in the dropship.
Suddenly Bellamy stumbled out of the main tent, grabbing the attention of Aurelia, who stood up abruptly and rushed to him. "Bell?" She attempted to reach towards him to steady him, but he swatted her hands away.
"Jasper, come over here." He called out weakly, still swaying slightly.
"Hi." the boy answered walking over. "You need me to go with you to the bridge again?"
"Actually, Aurelia is going with you. She's gonna take the shot and I'm gonna need you to keep a look at for her."
"Bell-" she tried to protest.
"Yeah." Jasper nodded. "Yeah I can do that."
Bellamy made eye contact with Aura, and she could see the desperation in his eyes. "If you miss.. If that bridge doesn't blow, we're all dead."
She nodded at him. "Don't worry about it, I've got it."
"Why me?" Jasper softly asked, hesitation in his eyes. "You have other guards who can protect Lia better than me." A look of realisation passed over his face. "It's because I'm not sick."
"Don't miss." Is all the older boy responded with.
Aurelia nodded. "Come on Jaybird." As they turned to leave, a sudden crash sounded, causing them to whip around. Aura widened her eyes, realising Bellamy had collapsed and rushed towards the boy, crouching to inspect him.
"No! Stay back." He ordered the girl, but she scoffed, moving towards him anyway.
"Cut the bullshit Blake. I'm not leaving you like this." She looked up at Jasper, who looked nervous. "You're gonna have to take the shot Jas. Go find Finn, he'll help." The boy opened his mouth to protest, but then nodded stiffly. Aurelia gave him a small smile of reassurance. "I believe in you Jasper. I know you'll do us proud."
"Yeah." He breathed out. "I can do this." He turned around and walked away, muttering this under his breath over and over.
Aura turned back towards Bellamy, using one hand to gently hold his face, and Bellamy just stared at her. "I find you incredibly annoying, you know that right?" She just chuckled in response.
