When FN-2187 left with the Resistance pilot, everything changed within the First Order. Conditioning was ordered for all of his battalion, and the almost relaxed program, if one could call it that, tightened its leash on its troopers. This meant more training, less free time, and no interaction with other battalions without supervision of a commanding officer.
After weeks of conditioning, you were named the battalion leader, Captain (Your Initials) -2186. Despite this promotion and it's many perks, including working alongside the one and only Captain Phasma, you still missed your favorite trooper and friend, FN-2187.
He had been the one to help you through training. As much as it tore you up to admit in front of the others, he had been the one to sneak you into the training room after lights out, just to reach you how to fight. Of course neither of you could afford to turn the lights on and risk getting caught so you fought in the dark, learning to rely on senses other than just sight. After weeks of this, you began to rise through the program, graduating just under FN-2187 himself. However, when he was selected for janitor duties, it broke your heart. You were chosen to serve on the front lines as a leader, while the man who taught you almost everything you knew was mopping the floors of Starkiller base and occasionally Snoke's own personal ship.
It would be years before the two of you ever reconnected. He would go out on his first field mission as a full stormtrooper with you to Jakku. The experience had been a shock for him. Not only had he watched his fellow janitor friend turned stormtrooper fall, but he couldn't allow himself to fire on the civilians, even after Lord Ren had commanded it himself.
You had to admit it was foolish, but also courageous. However, you'd never get the chance to tell him, because just hours later, he would become a traitor to the First Order and to the girl he left behind.
Now, you stand in the planet of Vardos watching as a squad of cadets make their way through a battle simulation. Out of all the methods used to train the cadets, this was your favorite. It required them all to work together to reach a common goal. It made you smile to watch this particular group. In most groups, female cadets were cast down and overlooked for leadership within a squad. However, this group made their leader the only female in the squad. You watched attentively as she lead them to victory. It reminded you of your own final simulation before graduation... and the stormtrooper who left it all for a chance at a luxury you would never have, freedom.
Shaking your head, you clear your mind. Unfortunately for you, FN-2187 seems to cross your mind more than you would like. It's as if you see him everywhere, in almost every trooper. Even Captain Phasma is able to pick up when you've drifted off in thought, normally wondering about whatever happened to your closest friend. Rumor has it that he joined the Resistance. No one knows for sure, except maybe the higher ups. If Phasma knows, she's never voiced his affiliation with the enemy. So why does it still bother me? He's gone. He left me behind. It's time I moved on.

More than a few star systems away, Finn watches as freedom fighters run along the tarmac on D'Qar. As their steps fall into a soothing unison, Finn begins to see them, not as Resistance fighters, but as his old battalion of stormtroopers. He saw his friends, jogging behind their leader, the beautiful, but equally badass, (Y/I)-2186 setting the pace. For a moment, he forgets how to breathe, (Y/I)-2186. I never got to tell her. I left without letting her ever know...
A familiar voice snaps him from his thoughts, "Finn?" Rey tilts her head slightly, "You were mumbling. You okay?"
He straightens up, "Uh, yeah. Just...um...daydreaming. You know?"
Rey nods, "All too well. Oh, um, General Organa asked me to tell you that she needs to speak with you immediately about a new mission. Good luck!" She walks off, in search of the Resistance's favorite Wookie, Chewbacca.
Finn is left alone. New mission? That's odd. Quickly, he jogs to the control room where Leia waits, standing by a holotable. "Finn, I'm glad to see you. We have a new lead on project (name from Battlefront 2)." He perks up immediately, this causes the general to smile. "This is Captain (Y/I)-2186. She has been overseeing the project on the planet of Vardos with Captain Phasma. Sources tell us she is the key to this program. Since General Hux's decision to step back from the project, these two have been running the program. One of our spies has reported a slight flaw in her that most leadership does not express, compassion. We do not believe she would be as compassionate to a Resistance fighter, but perhaps a former trooper."
Finn is locked up with fear, "You want me... you want me to go back?"
She nods, "I wouldn't ask this if you unless I believed you were the only one who could pull this off. I was considering both Poe and Rey for the mission, but they lack the discipline it takes to be a stormtrooper. Your mission is to extract Captain (Y/I)-2186 and being her back to base. That is all. We will have a team assist you with the extraction, but first, we need her to trust you enough to leave with you, or to meet with you alone so that you can knock her out. Am I understood? We need her alive to stop this program."
Finn glances at the floor and nods, "Understood."
Leia smiles, "Good. Poe will drop you off at her location in the morning. May the Force be with you."
Finn nods and leaves the control room, still in shock. I'll get to see her again. After all this time, I'm finally going to get my chance to let her know.

A/N Anyway, so I started writing 😂. I had that 2 am urge to write, and this is the result, hope y'all like it!!
May the Force be with you!
