Crash

I raced up the rocky slope, watching the sky. Two massive frigates had appeared outside the atmosphere, quickly engaging in an impressive battle. The rocks slid beneath me as I struggled to reach the top of the mountain.

The sky was clear and I could see every detail of the great battle raging above. One of the ships appeared to be Republic. They passed Lah'mu on a regular basis.

A large portion of the Republic ship suddenly broke free of the rest of the vessel.

My heart beat quickened. That was a lot of tech. I couldn't wait to raid the crash site for parts.

Suddenly, three escape pods jettisoned from the main ship as it dropped through the atmosphere towards the planet.

I watched as enemy fighters shot down one of the pods, then a second. The third pod was hit, but wasn't destroyed. The crippled pod tumbled to the earth, crashing through the trees in a nearby valley.

I saw no explosion, but I knew that was no reason to hope that the occupants were alive. There was only one way to find out.

I sprinted down the hill, sliding on the rocks and using the trees as support. The terrain was tricky, but nothing I hadn't dealt with before.
About halfway down the hill, I heard the sound of thrusters burning. I turned to see a transport landing in the trees on the opposite end of the valley. From the design of the vessel I could tell that it was from the enemy ship. They must have come to make sure that there were no survivors.

Unsure where to go, I decided to get to the bottom of the hill first. I ran recklessly down the slope, tripping near the bottom. I fell on my back, my staff digging into my spine. Groaning, I painfully rose to my feet. I grabbed my staff and pulled it over my head, off my back. My spine ached from the collision. That was going to leave a mark.

Suddenly, an explosion ripped through the silence. Smoke rose up from the trees. Looked like the enemy had found the survivors.
