We continued in silence. There wasn't anymore interference as we made our way to the island in the middle of a lava lake.
Fives shot a grappling hook across the boiling hot expanse. Before anyone could slide across to the island, more STAPs appeared, whizzing by overhead.
The other Jedi and I protected the officers and the clones as they zip lined across the lava lake.
Ahsoka followed after them. She was too important to keep in harms way. Master Kenobi descended to the island after her.
As Anakin readied to do the same, an STAP shot the line, snapping it in two. Anakin glared at the droid and Force jumped onto the back of its vehicle. He threw the droid from the speeder and rode it to the island.
I rolled my eyes. "Show off." I examined the distance between me and the others. It was a long shot, but I had to try. Backing up a few paces, I got a running start and leaped across the gap, letting the force carry me farther than I could ever go on my own. I landed at the edge of the island and summersaulted forward. Ahsoka helped me to my feet.
Another STAP flew over the ridge, but this time it was Sobeck riding the vehicle, not a droid. He fired at us as we huddled on the island.
Master Kenobi and Anakin deflected the bullets. Meanwhile, Fives, the arc trooper, took aim and blasted the warden's STAP.
Sobeck leapt from the vehicle as it crashed into the lava, landing on the island. He glared at our group. "No one has ever escaped the Citadel. No one ever will." He lunged at Captain Tarkin, tackling him to the ground.
The two grappled on the ground for a while. No one interfered for fear of harming the captain.
Sobeck gained the upper hand and held Tarkin threateningly over the lava at the edge of the island. "If I can't have the information, no one can."
A green lightsaber burst through his chest and he released the captain. Ahsoka deactivated her weapon and Sobeck's corpse fell to the ground.
I locked eyes with her. She looked ashamed. She had killed an unarmed man. He was a lunatic, but still...
A gunship appeared overhead and landed on the island. Master Plo Koon waited inside. We piled onto the ship and rode it up to the fleet just inside the atmosphere.
It was over. We'd done it. We'd escaped.
