.Sasuke opened his eyes when he felt the car stopped. Shikamaru was silent as he watched Sasuke stepped out of the car. He couldn't see the Uchiha's eyes, or whatever emotion was held in those hooded orbs. But even if Shikamaru could see Sasuke's eyes and emotions it withheld, Shikamaru doesn't know how to talk to him. Perhaps his father would be better suited in this kind of things or more than Shikaku, Shikamaru knew someone else would be better in talking to him right now.
And that someone is neither his father nor Naruto but the woman waiting for Sasuke inside that residence.
Sakura.
Shikamaru rubbed the back of his neck as he stepped outside, following closely behind Sasuke. He was the first one to notice the men guarding the mansion outside the gates. They bowed in unison but Sasuke seem to not notice them as he walked past without so much of a glance. Shikamaru nodded at them in acknowledgement and once inside, Shikamaru was stopped by Ino who suddenly appeared before him.
"Is it over?" She asked, briefly stealing a glance at Sasuke who was slowly walking.
"Sakura is upstairs, the room in the far left corner. You should tell him." She nodded towards Sasuke who was already far from them.
Shikamaru rubbed the back of his neck again as he yawned. "Nah, someone else will tell him. I'm so tired right now but I have to go back and help Naruto."
"Should I call Dad?"
Shikamaru nodded and both he and Ino walked outside. Ino's father being in the Tokyo Police Department has its fair share of merits. And he will be a big help in cleaning up the remaining mess and by morning, no one will ever know what transpired during the night in Ichigaya residence in Chiyoda.
Sasuke's body was starting to lose its numbness as the pain started to make its way. He took a step towards the stairs, gripping the rails as he grunted. Slowly, each step he took send pain through his body but he endured it until he was on the last flight of stairs and standing in front was a man whom Sasuke knew and trusted since he was a kid.
"Aoda," Sasuke mutter, looking at the man who didn't seem to age a year since he last saw him and Sasuke was eighteen that time.
"Sasuke-sama," Aoda said as he bowed. His voice was the same emotionless tone but there was hint of sadness.
"Please, come with me this way."
Sasuke doesn't want to. All he wanted right now is see Sakura but he somehow felt the urgency in Aoda's tone that Sasuke found himself following him. They walked through the silent hallway and towards a mahogany door which Aoda pushed open. The room was a study with wooden bookshelves on the side containing books, a desk in front behind a window that overlooked the cherry blossom trees, a glass coffee table in the middle with a few couches.
"This is Itachi's study room," Sasuke said. He momentarily remembered that time when he was young and he would always hide behind that heavy curtain in this very room whenever they played hide and seek.
Itachi would always pretend not to see Sasuke when in fact, he could very well see his feet under the curtain. One time, Itachi showed him the hidden door behind the bookshelf and towards a hidden room.
