What could have been a felicitous event to celebrate the end of the year and welcome another year turned into a tragedy full of gunfire and blood. Everything happened so quickly like a strike of lightning, the situation that followed escalated so fast. Sasuke could remember the loud gunshot and then the pain that come after that. He saw his former Sensei, pulling the trigger, ending a life while saving the other.
Sasuke would slip in and out of consciousness afterwards, he'd hear muffled noises in the background but he would dismiss it and fall back into oblivion. The time he decided to open his eyes, a white ceiling welcomed him.
He felt lightheaded as if he's been asleep for weeks. He tried to move but he felt a sudden pain shot through his shoulders and Sasuke looked down on it. It must have been where he was shot.
Getting up slowly, Sasuke sat on the bed and looked around. The hospital room is quite spacious, with white walls and dark curtains. On the wooden coffee table there was a flower vase and a basket of fruits. When the door suddenly opened, Sasuke was expecting to see Sakura, frankly she's the first thing that came to his mind when his thoughts were clear.
But it wasn't Sakura. Instead, Aoda stood by the door and Sasuke sighed inaudibly. Of course Aoda noticed how his young master's shoulders seem to slumped in dismay. That's why Aoda stepped to the side, letting Sakura in.
"Sasuke-kun,"
Her voice made Sasuke looked up, his eyes a bit wide and before he knew it Sakura was embracing him so tightly but still careful enough not to press on his injured shoulder.
"Sasuke-kun, I–I was so worried," she muttered, her voice muffled and her shoulders shaking before she leaned out and faced him.
"It's fine now," Sasuke said. "Don't cry," he used his thumb to wiped the tears that keep falling down her cheeks.
When Sakura calmed down and after the Doctor came to check on Sasuke, Aoda excused himself as Sakura sat on the chair beside the bed.
"How long was I unconscious?" Sasuke asked, his shoulder now in a cast.
"Two days," Sakura said. "You're in Senju Medical Hospital."
Sasuke noticed how Sakura still seem sad, like there's a hidden sorrow hidden in those emerald orbs that Sasuke was starting to worry about what could have transpired during and after that incident.
When he thought this new year would finally be different from last year, considering he will be spending it with Sakura by his side, it turned out grim and tragic once more. It seems every end of the year Sasuke would be reminded of all the sins he had committed and each year there would always be a tragic event. Whether it was the death of his brother or the incident during that New Year's Eve, Sasuke was simply glad Sakura is still here to remind him otherwise. That after every grievous incidents occur, there is someone who is worried for Sasuke and that there is someone he can always turn to after all the searing events.
"Sasuke-kun," Sakura's voice pulled Sasuke out of his reverie as he looked at her.
Her eyes were downcast and Sasuke wanted nothing but to know just why she seem so dejected when he assured her and the Doctor said Sasuke is alright. Or is there anything else he doesn't know? He lost consciousness after Kakashi shot Obito, Sasuke doesn't know what else happened afterwards.
At the sudden thought that someone they know or closed with might have been gravely injured, or worse, died, Sasuke suddenly felt a foreign feeling invading his system. Was it fear? Worry? He doesn't know.
