Salient Secret

Chapter 18

Our kiss was interrupted by my phone ringing, I ignored it the first time but when it rang again I just had to answer.

"Sorry, I should take this," I say to Kai and he let's me go so I can reach for my phone on the bed.

"Hey mom, what's up," I say as casually as I can.

"Honey, I'm down at the snack bar, would you like anything before I come up?" My eyes go big and Kai gives me a "What?" look. 

"Ummmm, yeah, a fruit salad would be nice," I say just to keep her busy for a little while longer. 

"Okay sweetie, I'll see you in a bit." I hang up the phone.

"My mom's coming, like now," I say to Kai not knowing if he should leave or stay. He makes the decision for me by scrambling for his stuff. "What you're leaving?" I say kind of disappointed.

"Yeah, I'll be back tomorrow during the day," he says kissing my forehead and then heading for the door.

"I guess we're keeping this private then," I say to myself when Kai leaves the room. I pick up my phone to check for messages, I notice the time, it's 4 pm on the dot, my mom is punctual, that's new, then I see about 10 messages from Maya apologizing. 

Hmmmmm, do I tell my mom about this or not? Decisions, decisions. 

"Hey honey," my mom says pushing passed the open door.

"Hey sweetie," I say in the same high pitched tone she greeted me with and she giggles. She hands me the fruit salad, and my phone lights up because Maya is calling, but I ignore it and my mom notices. If that's not a sign to tell my mom about this then I don't know what is.  

"Trouble in paradise?" she asks.

"Like you would not believe."

"Wanna talk about it?" Yeah I actually do, this is Jason's mom too, hopefully she'll scold him in ways I can't. 

"Maya and Jason." She looks confused. 

"What about them?"

"Mom, Maya and Jason," I say raising my eyebrows, and nodding my head forward so she knows exactly what I mean. 

"NOOOOO," she says in disbelief, I nod my head.

"Yiupp, they came to tell me earlier today."

"That is disturbing. Did they say how long it's been going on for?"

"About 6 months."

"6  MONTHS?" Damn, I really wish she was with me when they told me, I wouldn't have felt so ganged up on, and she would've taken my side. 

"Yeah, I know," I say with a disgusted expression. 

"Wait...are they together or together together?" she's asking me if they're having "coitus" as Sheldon Cooper would say, I don't think she is mentally prepared for this answer.

"Together together," she gasps and places her hand over her mouth in shock. I told you, she was not ready.

"They claim to be in love," I add. 

"No ways."

"Ways."

"But you can't tell dad okay, Jason must tell dad himself. I only told you because it would make me really happy if you could make his life hell in little ways at home," I say giving her puppy eyes.

"Is that even a question, of course I'm making that little shits life hell at home."

"Easy tiger, that's your son," I say laughing.
