Chapter 42

Kai's pov

"Lorenzo do you trust me?"

"With my life."

"I need you to trust me and get in the car, I'll explain everything when we get there."

"Okay," he closes the front door and gets into the car, Avery and Palmer are in the backseat, when he opens the front door and sees them, he gives me a curious look.

"Just get in," I say and he does exactly that. The only person who would know where I'm taking them, is Lorenzo, he doesn't know we're going there now but he will recognize it. It's one of the first places we came when we got here. 

After 30 minutes of driving and silence, we finally arrive. 

"Why are we here?" Lorenzo asks,.

"What exactly is here?" Palmer asks, I'm still not used to hearing her talk like a grow ass lady. I don't  answer her, I just get out of the car and everyone follows my lead, I walk to the door, there's a chain on it, it suddenly falls off, I'm guessing that was Palmer's doing. I walk inside and take in one of the best views.

"This place is a dump, what are we doing here?" Palmer says ruining my moment. 

"It's an abandoned gym," I say.

"How do you know about this place?" Avery asks looking around. 

"When we first came her, we wanted to buy our own gym to train in, this was one of the places we came across. It was a bit too far from the main events, so we didn't take it," Lorenzo explains. When he says we, that excludes our dad, we wanted to surprise him.

"It needs a bit of work but if we want to-"

"Shhhhh. Wait," Palmer says. Her eyes light up and she makes that sound again which paralyzes Lorenzo and I until Avery grabs both our hands which makes it not hurt anymore. A guy appears behind us, screaming in agony. Palmer stops the noise and drags this guy across the floor until he is in front of her. She puts both her hands on his head and her eyes go white, after a minute, the guy gets up and walks straight out of the gym. 

"What just happened?" Lorenzo and I ask in sync. Avery and Palmer do their little demonstration again for Lorenzo, then Avery sits us down in the gyms backroom and explains everything to Lorenzo, I show Lorenzo what I can do to confirm that it's all true. 

"Wait so Uncle Arlo is bad?" he asks and Avery nods. "He was like a second father to me," he says clearly hurt.

"That was his job, to get close to your family," Avery explains and then leaves to give us time to talk.

"Look man, I was sad at first, but then I kept thinking about how it has been an act this whole time, and then I just got mad. He played with our lives, he is the one who planted spy cameras in our home. He is Dane's best friend who is playing dad's best friend. It hurts, but I need you to take that pain and turn it into anger, we're going to have to face him sooner or later, and when we do, we have to be able to take that deceitful son of a bitch down," I stand up and hold my hand out, "You with us?" I grin when he looks up and takes my hand, 

"Let's kill this fucker," I don't know if he is referring to Dane or Arlo but it doesn't matter because I like his energy. "How are we going to find out what I can do?" he asks after standing up.

"That's what the girls are here for," I think.  We step out of the backroom and into the main gym area, it looks nothing like the gym we saw when we walked in. There's no rubbish on the floor, the ring is fixed, the roof is fixed and the posters are back up on the wall.

"Took you boys long enough, who's first?" Avery takes her jacket off, she's in a sports bra and tights, that paired with this badass attitude...I've never seen anything sexier.

"I'll go first," Lorenzo says stepping into the ring. 

"What? No ways, Lorenzo is a professional fighter, that's unfair," I argue.

"Hush big brother, just watch," Palmer says with a grin on her face. 

Lorenzo and Avery both stand in the middle and bump fists, Palmer signals for them  to start and Lorenzo throws the first punch. I guess he decided not to hold back because she heals. The first punch hits her in her face and she moves back until she hits the edge of the ring, she smiles and walks back to the middle. Lorenzo throws three consecutive punches and Avery dodges them all, she takes his hand and flips him right over her until he lands on his back. He doesn't get up, he simply sweeps her legs with his, she falls right on her ass. They both stand up and as Lorenzo tries to kick her in her abdomen, she flips backwards so that he misses her. He backs her up against the corner and throws a punch but she ducks and moves around so that he is the one cornered. She punches him several times until he finally uses his leg to kick her back. I have no idea what kind of fighting this is but it is entertaining. She slides right across to the other corner of the ring, she gets up and as Lorenzo is walking towards her she draws both her arms back and brings her hands together, like one giant clap, which causes a massive energy wave that knocks Lorenzo right out of the ring. 

Palmer runs to Lorenzo and I follow.

"Avery what was that?" she asks.

"I have no idea," she jumps out of the ring and puts her hands on Lorenzo and he eventually opens his eyes and sits up. I look at Palmer who looks like Sammy trying to figure out a mathematics problem.

"Avery, you took down Arlo after you healed him correct?" Palmer asks and she nods. "After what I just saw today, there's no ways you could've taken him out without help." 

"Hey!" Avery whines.

"What are you saying Palmer?" I say anxious for her hypothesis.

"I'm saying," she turns to Avery, "You weren't tired or drained after basically bringing me back to life when I fell from a window," she fell from a window??? They did not include that into the explanation. "... it's because when you heal people, you're not just giving them your energy, you're exchanging your energy for theirs, therefore inheriting their abilities."

"You're telling me that that electromagnetic wave I just released is from Lorenzo?"

"That's exactly what I'm saying," I help Lorenzo up.

"What if it's just the build up of Avery's energy?" Lorenzo asks. 

"Well give it go," I say and everyone moves to behind him. He does exactly what Avery did and it sends a wave that breaks down a part of the gym wall. 

"I just repaired this place," Palmer complains. 

"That is awesome," I wanna try, I shapeshift into Lorenzo and blast a wave at the same wall he did.

"Woah," Lorenzo says in awe.

"Okay now stop blasting the walls unless you want to fix them," Palmer scolds.

"Why would Lorenzo get this ability? He should've gotten speed or strength because he is a fighter," Avery raises a serious concern, we all look at Lorenzo. 

"An electromagnetic wave does include gamma waves which the sun gives off, so it is possible Lorenzo had a bit too much exposure to radiation therefore causing the injection to focus on that instead of anything else," Palmer really did get the brains. 

"Looks like that beach sun tan came in handy after all." Avery comments.

"Lorenzo, you could take down armies if you learn what else you can do with this and how to create bigger and more powerful waves," Palmer says looking at Lorenzo like this is what she has been searching for her whole life. 

"In other words, if we all master our abilities, Dane and his goons don't stand a chance."
