Chapter 41

"What are we going to do???There's only two of us and if you're right, by now he has a serum for each of us that can oppose our abilities. We can't do this on our own Palmer! We're going to be his puppets!"

"Avery calm down."

"How can you even say that, I thought I was done with having to plan my death..."

"Avery we're not alone!" she shouts which, ironically, calms down.

"What are you talking about?"

"That guy whose memories I erased was one of Dane's inner circle members, he knew a lot more than Arlo ever did."

"Anything that can help us?" the look on her face tells me she knows more than she's leading on. 

"Palmer what is it?"

"Lorenzo and Kai were injected too," you have got to be joking. 

"That's impossible, I would've known if Kai had super abilities by now."

"That's the thing... they don't know."

"How can they not know?"

"Torez took them hostage once in South America and Dane was there, he injected them while they were unconscious. Dane has been taunting them ever since to get them to 'activate' their abilities. But none of them have shown any signs of being a fulminare."

"A what?"

"It's what Dane calls the injected, it's Latin, it directly translates as 'to flash with thunderbolts.' Us, fulminares, we are Danes revenge on the people who hurt him the most. That guy's thoughts showed me that when he has control over us, he will use us to cause destruction, first on everyone and then on ourselves."

"We have to get Kai and Lorenzo to help us."

"Avery, if we do that, and they have powers and Dane finds out-"

"He won't, we know how he spies on us now, we can prevent it.Speaking of listening, what did you do with the snitch?" 

"I stole all his memories of Dane and us and then I  kicked him out into the hall."

"Oh, okay, well then, I need to speak to Kai about this, but first, are  you absolutely certain you saw Kai Grayson getting injected?" I ask really wanting her to say no it was someone else because Kai really has enough on his plate. 

"I know what I saw Ave, and I think it would be better for us to speak to him together, invite him here, now. When he comes I'll use my hyperacusis to drown out any snitches that may have followed him" so the sound thing has a name. 

"Alright," I pull out my phone and text Kai.

"SOS, need you at Melanies now... come alone." 

He replies,

"Be there in 10."

SOS was the quickest way to get him here, we agreed it's only for emergencies, and this is an emergency, not your typical "I've been kidnapped", more like "If you don't come, Dane will end us and our families", I don't mean to play judge or anything but one of those is way worse than the other one. 

"Even if we show him we're telling the truth, how are we going to figure out what he can do?" Palmer asks interrupting my thoughts.

"Why are you asking me like I'm the one who has been at this for two years? All I know is that we're not telling Arlo, he can't be trusted with this."

"Agreed. We'll just do the same tests Arlo did on you and cross our fingers."

"We could also try figure it out logically," I suggest.
