Salient Secret

Chapter 54

Kai's pov 

"You what?!" the scepticism is no secret in Palmer's words. 

"What were you thinking??? " Lorenzo adds. 

"I was thinking that they are the only real chance we have at finding Avery. It's been days, we have nothing. Plus, Sammy would be under protection 24/7."

"Oh you are so right, our baby brother is now protected by the enemy," he comments as if Sammy's life hasn't been my number one priority since he was a baby.  

"They are not the enemy. You guys should see the people they protect the world from."

"Okay," Palmer says. 

"What?" is she actually agreeing?

"Okay. Let us join Salutis too. Well, at least get us an audition,"  she continues.

"That's a great idea,"what other choice do I have?

"Fine," I sigh in defeat. 

After  picking up Sammy, along with a few of his belongings, we all drive up to the Salutis base. 

"Salutis has a thing for car repair garages," Lorenzo comments as we drive in and park. The floor scans the mark Salutis gave me to stick underneath my car. I'm not surprised when Sammy sticks his head against the window in awe of the car lowering down, but I must say, when Palmer and Lorenzo do the same thing, it takes me by surprise. 

When the elevator door opens, Dr Vesper is standing in front of us speaking to one of the agents, she dismisses him when she notices us standing there. "Kai, you said you had one younger brother," she says clearly dumbfounded by Palmer and Lorenzo's presence. 

"I do. This is my older brother Lorenzo and my half sister, Palmer." 

"You do realize we are a secret organization?" she asks sarcastically and I roll my eyes at her attempt to belittle me. 

"Yes, I know that. I think you should see what these two can do before you kick them out," she simply nods her head and starts walking towards the hallway. 

"I'll show him to his room," a female agent says with a  warm smile on her face while reaching for Sammy's hand. I rub Sammy's hair and let him go with her. 

Dr Vesper opens up the training room and dismisses everyone who's in there. When it's clear she says, "Okay. Show me."

"This is a nice room, if you'd like to keep it that way, I suggest you show me to room you're less fond of," Lorenzo says taking his destructive powers into account. 

"Go ahead sir, this is the second strongest room in the base," Dr Vesper responds matching Lorenzo's cocky tone. 

"If you say so," he says stepping forward  with his hands to his side and the blue energy he is generating becomes visible. He lifts his hands up, aiming them at the wall in front of him, and in no time, the wall has a giant, burnt out hole in it. Dr Vesper is standing there with her jaw basically on the floor, clearly flabbergasted. At least she looks impressed and not angry about the wall. 

"My turn," Palmer announces, Lorenzo steps back with a smirk on his face after seeing Vespers reaction and lets her take the floor. 

I  notice Dr Vesper shift uncomfortably when Palmer faces us with her eyes lit up. She then lifts all three of us off of the ground and floats us, over her head and to the other side of the room. 

"Astonishing", Dr Vesper says wide-eyed when Palmer drops her to the ground gently. "Welcome to Salutis," she says with a smile on her face. 

I decide to go find Sammy while Vesper gives them the same tour she gave me of the jail cells.
