Chapter 53

Kai's pov

"Recruit me? To do what exactly?"

"Mr Grayson, I think it's better for you to come and have a look for yourself."

"I am not interested in going back to Brazil," I turn around and start walking towards the door. 

"No one said you have to. We have a base of operations here as well," I stop and turn around.  

"Why  should I  trust you?"

"Because we can help you find your friend,"  he should've started with that. 

"Okay let's go." 

On the way there, I text Lorenzo and Palmer that I will be back in an hour. I choose not to tell them where I'm going until I know it's legit. 

We arrive at another car repair garage, but this time, the car drives in and parks, the floor lowers the  car down into their underground parking. Clint walks to an elevator which leads up into what looks like their main floor. It has many computers, a few giant screens in the front of the room and everyone is wearing black, this must be their opp center. However, a woman who is wearing a red top with a black, pencil skirt, walks towards us. 

"Kai Grayson. I am Doctor Viola Vesper and head of this Salutis base," I shake her hand. 

"Doctor Vesper will be taking you from here, I should get back to my base," he holds out his hand and says, "I'll be seeing you," I shake his hand and he walks away. 

"Clint said you guys can help me find Avery," I demand not ask. 

"Yes Mr Grayson, I assure you, we will help you find her, but first I'd like you to see what you'll be hired to do here," she started walking towards a hall in the middle of that sentence. The hallways' walls are all mirrors until she swipes her hand over it and the mirror becomes a window. 

"This is our training facility,"we stand and watch the instructor train with a girl, she looks young,  like she just started her junior year. Viola then moves to the next window.  "This is our weapons room," there are swords, blades, guns, grenades, throwing stars... what exactly are these people fighting? "I can't imagine what you must think of us because of Dane, but we are the good guys," she waves her hand and all the windows change back to mirrors, she leads the way to an elevator down the hall. She takes us down to the very last floor, when the doors open, all I see is a corridor until she nods at the camera and lights light up the jail cells.

"This is our prisoner floor. These are some of the most dangerous people in the world. I'm not going to tell you that all the legends are true, but there is a lot the world has no idea about," she walks to the first cell, a man in a blue jumpsuit is sitting on the bed. "He looks like an ordinary man doesn't he. Don't be fooled. He tried to rob 6 banks at the same time." 

"How is that even possible?" 

"Mr Marcus here is a psychotic genius, he built something called the Airemod. It does nothing other than teleport items from one location to another. He created 6 Airemods and hid them in the bank money carriers, all he had to do was press one button and all 6 vaults would have been his." 

"How did you catch him?"

"That is our job," she says and then moves to the next cell. 

"This is Tagor Taylor. She is the worlds most dangerous chemist. She created acids that could melt buildings down in seconds," I look at the black haired girl bouncing a ball against the wall. We walk passed an entire hallway filled with all these people, then she stops at the one at the end of the hall. 

"Dane James, part 2. He experimented on himself and he basically became the Hulk. When he uses his strength, hell breaks loose in his mind. Rage takes over and he just becomes nothing other than destructive and dangerous. He can lift a bus like it's a plate and throw it as if it were a ball. He is by far one of  the most dangerous prisoners," I look at this man who is chained by his wrists and his feet, he has a muzzle over his mouth and he is unconscious.

"Who's the most dangerous prisoner?" curiosity gets the best of me, if this Hulk man isn't #1 then who is. 

"Jackie Monow," she says opening a door which leads to a room with a cell that is different from the others. The lights come on and a woman is strapped down to a table, also unconscious."She is deadly. We believe she is one of  Dane's experiments gone wrong. He thought she died but she did not. She has snake fangs that contain venom that will kill you in seconds and that's not all. She can turn that venom into a gas that bonds with oxygen molecules, when people inhale it not only do they die in seconds but their bodies melt into a liquid that seeks water. If even a drop of that liquid fell into the ocean, the entire ocean would become poison, therefore killing every living creature in the water. When it becomes an ocean of poison it won't stop trying to find another water source. eventually every single water source on the Earth would become her venom." 

Hear me out... she should  be dead. 

"Mr Grayson-"

"Please call me Kai," I interrupt. 

"Kai, the world is full of more people like the ones you saw here today. You are clearly a shapeshifter. Don't  you want to use your powers to help others by stopping the bad and dangerous people out there? We will not be controlling you, you will be offered to live here or wherever, all that will be expected of you is that you train with us and go on the missions we assign to you." 

"I have a little brother, I am his guardian, if I stay here then he stays here." 

"Arrangements can be made. He will be provided a room and protection for when you are not around. We do have a school program here for the young ones who seek to become soldiers one day," I would feel better knowing Sammy is protected when I am not with him. "There's no rush Kai. Take your time. When you decide, we will find your friend and give you exact details of what Salutis is offering," I need to find Avery right now. 

"I don't need time, I've made my decision. That means we start looking for Avery, now," Doctor Vesper smiles and nods.
