Kai's pov

The ringing in my ears is deafening. I look up  and see Lorenzo lying in the distance, I crawl to him even though everything in my body hurts. Thankfully, he has a pulse, he'll be fine. Palmer is lying behind him. Stupid bastard tried to protect her by almost killing himself. It worked because she has a pulse too.

After an embarrassing amount of stumbling, I stand up and look around. Everyone is unconscious, hopefully Vesper and them are all dead.

"Avery," I say and rush towards the room where she was...

There's no room.

Just blood and everything is destroyed.

There's no body.

There's no Avery.

She's gone.

She's really gone.

Lorenzo's pov

"Palmer. Stop."

"NO! Enzo. I won't believe she's dead. There was no body."

"Because her body was blown to bits."

"That's exactly what we are going to find out today."

"You've been waiting by the phone the  whole day. Can you please just stop to eat or something?"

"Enzo. Please. I need this. Just let me be," I've never heard Palmer say anything with such pain in her voice, I know that phone call is just going to make everything worse, but I do what she wants and leave her be.

2 hours go by and the phone finally rings...

When I don't hear Palmer say anything I know what the results were. I walk back into the living room and see Palmer on her knees, with her face in her hands, crying.

"Hey Kai, it's Lorenzo...again. I haven't heard from you in 2 days... just in case you were having the same doubts Palmer was having, the investigator called, they found pieces of Avery's skin and bones on the crime scene. She definitely blew up. I went down to the station to see it for myself. Sorry bro. Reply to something, even if it's just a thumbs up emoji. I'm worried :("

*****

"Kai. It's been a week. I'm seriously worried. We need to tell Avery's parents. They deserve to know their daughter died. Palmer can't keep brainwashing them. Sammy misses you. Come home."
