Cars + Parking Lots

daniel's pov

"Daniel where are we goinggg???" Y/n asks, following me out the door into the car. I still haven't given her any hints prior to our surprise location. I open the door to the driver's seat, starting the engine. She gets in the passenger seat next to me, still trying to figure out the surprise. "Are you gonna tell me or what?"

"Nope." I say, smiling as I back out of the driveway. She sighs, giving up as she looks out the window. I turn on the radio to fill in the silence as I keep my eyes on the road. Just then her favorite song comes on, Castle on the Hill. I look at her out of the corner of my eye, seeing her lip syncing the lyrics. She catches me and immediately stops. I laugh, watching her try to resist. "Come onnn, I wanna hear your amazing voice." I say, begging. She rolls her eyes jokingly at me, keeping her gaze out the window again.

"You're one to talk Daniel Seavey. Have you heard your voice?" she says, resting her head up on her hand.

"Yeah I've heard my voice, but I wanna hear yours." I tell her, looking at her, pouting. She looks at me, not giving in.

"No that's not fairr, I'll sing if you tell me where we're going." she says, crossing her arms like a child. 

"You'll like it, trust me. At least I think you'll like it." I say confidently, I then look at the road, suddenly nervous. "I hope you'll like it." I mumble under my breath. I see her look at me with the corner of my eye.

"Aww, is someone nervous?" she says, looking at me teasingly. I look at her, trying to hide my redness.

"What? You make me nervous." I tell her, she instantly blushes. She then turns up the radio, Wake Me Up is now blasting. We start screaming the lyrics at the top of our lungs, not even caring if we sound bad or not. We eventually stop at an empty lot of land a couple hours later. She sits up, looking out the window, then looks back at me confused. 

"Where are we?" she asks, looking back and forth from the window to me. I get out of the car, walking over to her. We really are in the middle of nowhere, it's mostly just rocks and not a lot of grass. I take her hand, leading her further away from the car. We walk up some steps leading to a hill. At the top of the hill we are greeted by all our friends.

"SURPRISE!" they scream, coming out from behind whatever they hid behind. Her jaw drops, covering her mouth with her free hand. I take her to meet everyone as we walk over to the group. She runs over to Anna first, who has her arms open for her to run into. Screams are everywhere as she hugs everyone, it's amazing seeing everyone like this.

y/n's pov

"SURPRISE!" I hear as everyone comes out of their hiding spot. In front of me is a bonfire with logs around it, with the view of the Hollywood sign in the distance. My jaw drops as I look at Daniel then back to all our friends. Daniel walks me to all of them, I still haven't said anything. I spot Anna first with her arms wide open. Although I saw her when I landed, I run into her arms squeezing her tight.

"I missed you!" she says, squealing. 

"I missed you more!" I say with a huge smile on my face. I hug Gabbie who's next to them, hugging her tight. "It's been too long, I missed you." I tell her, smiles still on everyone's face. 

I then see Zach and Jack hugging both of them. "I missed you two nut jobs." 

I then see Jonah behind them, he takes me in his arms as I hug him tight. He hands me a card that says 'Welcome Home', I open it and in it is a Starbucks gift card. I look at him, grateful and laugh as I hug him one more time. "Thank Jo, I'll definitely be using this." Next to Jonah is Corbyn, his arms already open for me.

"Bean!" I say, going into his arms, hugging him tight. We both laugh as we break away. "How are you?" he asks. I nod my head, "I'm doing good. Wait so all of you were behind the surprise?"

They all nod, stupid grins and all. I roll my eyes playfully at all of them, shaking my head laughing. We all sit on the logs, surrounding the fire. I sit on a log next to Daniel, intertwining his fingers with mine. I rest my head on his shoulder as we stare at the blazing fire in front of us. Zach comes from their car with ingredients for s'mores. He passes the bag around as we just talk about life and joke around. Jonah takes out some In N Out they bought for everyone before coming here.

"You were so checking her out!" Jack says to Zach, who's blushing embarrassed. I ask Daniel who's the girl, but he doesn't know either.

"I was not!" He tells him defensively, his face getting redder by the second. We all laugh, teasing him even more.

"Look how red he is!" Jonah says, pointing at his rosy cheeks. Zach bangs his head against Anna's shoulder who's seated next to him, saying 'Why' over and over.

"It's okay to have a crush Zachy." Corbyn says, still laughing. Zach then begins to throw the left over marshmallows at all of us, turning it into a full on war. Daniel finds an unopened bag of marshmallows behind our log, handing me the bag. We're all broken into teams now. Jack, Zach, Gabbie, and Anna, against me, Daniel, Corbyn, and Jonah. I rip open the bag, keeping it tight in my grip. We bring our food fight away from the fire, 'cause we're sensible like that. Daniel puts me on his shoulders as I start throwing marshmallows. Jonah and Corbyn start making this catapult, shooting marshmallows at them. Eventually, Jack's team runs out of marshmallows and we're all walking near the edge of the cliff, looking at the view. The sun already started to come down, leaving a cotton candy sky. It was beautiful. We all get blankets to sit on as we all huddle up close to each other. I wore denim shorts and a white tank, so it was starting to get chilly. As if he read my mind, Daniel takes off his hoodie, giving it to me. I snuggle up closer to him as we admire the view. We ended up taking some photos just for the memory, maybe we'll end up posting some after. Corbyn grabs his guitar out of the car, strumming some throwback songs. We ended up singing I Want It That Way and Thinking Out Loud, out of key and all. Jonah, Corbyn, Daniel, Jack, and Zach then sang If I Could Fly as the sun went down. We all agreed that one day they should make a band, but they took it lightly. The sun was slowly setting as we all watched the lights showcase the Hollywood sign. I keep close to Daniel, sitting in between his legs, leaning against him, his arms wrapped around me. I rest my head against his arm, taking in the view. We ended up playing thumb wars while we listened to music, just enjoying everyone's presence.

"Thanks for this." I say, quietly so no one else hears but him. He takes my hand and kisses it. 

"Of course, I'm glad you like it." a warm smile fills my face, I have butterflies in my stomach.

"I love it." I tell him, already knowing what he's gonna say.

"I love you." he says, and I smile, 'cause my prediction was correct. The sun's long gone and we're staring at the night sky. Corbyn begins educating us on the constellations, which was really interesting. We all said goodnight to each other as we went back to our cars. The drive back was gonna be a couple hours if we got lucky. We begin to drive for an hour, listening to music and telling stories to each other. Suddenly, the car starts making a noise and we see that we're running out of gas. 

"Crap." Daniel says under his breath, trying to find the nearest gas station. 30 minutes. "We barely have enough gas for 10 minutes." I look at the GPS to see a grocery store a couple minutes away, I point to it.

"Let's go here. Everything'll be fine." I tell him with a reassuring smile.

"Whatever you say." he says, following the directions to the store. We pull into the empty parking lot and take a slot near the trees. I get out of the car and open the trunk, taking the blankets we used at the site. 

"This should be fine for now, right?" I ask, going into the back passenger seats. He smiles at me through the mirror, nodding his head. He gets out of his seat, folding down the back seats. We both climb in, making ourselves comfortable. I rest my hand on his chest, hearing his heart beat with mine. He texts Christian, telling him we're stuck in the car for the night. Christian replied, saying he'll pick us up right away. While we wait, we watch a movie on my phone, creating a new memory for us.
