Brownies Part 7

3 days later and Addy had been released from the hospital and told to rest at home for the week. Since Kelly had taken a lot of time off to be with her, he had to go back to work and rather than hire a sitter they decided Stella was going to take the shift off to stay home with Addy. They decided to make brownies and when they were in the oven Stella gave Addy the spoon to lick and turned around to the sink to start the washing up. There was a loud thud as the wooden spoon dropped to the ground and Stella turned around to see tears streaming down the child's face. "Addy, honey what's wrong?" she asked while giving her a hug. Through her tears the little girl managed to say "Shay used to give me the spoon to lick," Stella remembered Kelly telling her how close Shay was to Addy and felt horrible. "I'm so sorry babygirl, it's going to be ok, Shay's an angel in heaven now." She held the child close and rocked her until the crying stopped, Addy looked at Stella with red, puffy eyes and Stella wiped her tears away before they went and picked a film to watch. 

Halfway through the Disney film and the kitchen timer beeped, the brownies were ready! Stella took them out and after five minutes of cooling the girls couldn't wait any longer. Stella cut two squares and gave the first one to Addy, she looked at it in shock before laughing. Stella looked at her confusedly. Addy explained, "Shay would always have the first one to check if it was 'poisonous', but really she just wanted the brownie before me." Stella smiled and they sat back down on the couch to finish the film.

Kelly came back that night to see the two cuddled up on the couch. Addy was laid on top of Stella and Stella's arms were around the child. He took a photo before covering them with a blanket, kissing them both on the head and walking to his room.
