CHAPTER 25: GREED

||3RD POV||

Tanaka and she switched out after a while and she smiled at Ukai as she remembered how she told him about her condition. Her words rang in his head every time she was in a game, 'I can only play half set or a set, no more, because if I do, I think that I would get restless and injure someone since I'm keeping my techniques under control.' He understood and accepted that she was back on the bench with the others with a relaxed smile that surprised them. She wasn't tensed or stiff as she watched how they played, she was completely relaxed which made her worried since this never happened to her.

She and the others gathered around as Ukai spoke, "They already had a careful eye on our quicks. For the time being, when we're up against Nekoma, let's mainly have Asahi and Tanaka attacking from the left." They nod as a few agreed, "Alright." She went to help Yachi with a few things which made the poor blonde tremble as she stared at the brunette, soon she started to relax around her with how the taller girl was cheerful.

She held a bottle of water out towards Kageyama who took it while saying, "Thanks." She nods with a smile as she continued to pass out bottles of water to the others. She heard how the whistle blew and gathered their water bottles as they got onto the court again. She watched how the round started but roared with rage when she saw Hinata in the air as he wanted to steal Asahi's spike, "Hinata Shoyo!" He bounced off of Asahi as he got knocked out of his daze and he fell to the ground onto his back, it was eerie quiet and she walked towards him with her hair covering her eyes.

She was behind him and picked him up by the back of his collar as she roared with fury, "What the fuck were you thinking, you idiot?!" She turned him around and he saw how her eyes were dark with anger and rage as she scowled at him, her voice echoed throughout the gymnasium as she roared with her lungs, "Control yourself! You could've caused an accident with your recklessness!" He was trembling as he mustered out, "I'm sorry..." She brought him closer to her as she stated with a scowl, "I'm not the one you're supposed to be apologizing to." She lets go of him as she turned around, everyone watched how she picked up a ball and walked away, saying in a dead tone, "Coach, I refuse to play until further notice. Please notify me when this idiot has learned his lesson."

Ukai looks at her wide-eyed as he saw her wings open, looking like she was about to take off and never return. He gulped as she disappeared from the gymnasium and he looked at Hinata who was vigorously apologizing to Asahi, who stared at him with wide eyes but they were flickering to where the brunette disappeared. Meanwhile, with her hair loose, she was outside, muttering with her brows furrowed as she tossed into the sky while sitting on a hill, "Fucking dumbass... He was clearly not thinking and stared at the ball even though coach told everyone that Asahi and Tanaka will be attacking at the left..."

She sighs as she tossed the ball high into the sky, she catches it as she sits upright. She stared at the sky as she spoke out loud to herself, "Man, I really miss playing basketball..." She spins the ball on her fingers as she watched how the clouds moved across the sky, she places the ball next to her and the leaves from the trees above her flutter as the wind passed by. Slowly, her eyes closed as her nerves and thoughts relaxed and she fell into unconsciousness. After a few minutes, a figure walked where she was sleeping and sighed as he rubbed his head while staring at her.

"You're really something," He stated to the sleeping beauty as he sat next to her, he raised his hand and runs his finger through her locks as he continued, "I still remember how you played with your previous team at internationals here in Tokyo, how one of your teammates stole a ball from you when you were in the air and accidentally broke your shoulder, which caused you not to play the rest of the game, as he bounced right off of you." He paused as he looked up at the sky, he closed his eyes and released a slow breath, he opened his eyes as he added, "I got furious to know something like that happened to a great leader like yourself. I recall how you were crying in pain as the teammate was kicked out from the team, how the rest of your team still won the internationals when you went to the hospital."

Steadily, he leaned over her, and his lips land on her forehead as he closed her eyes if she woke up. He pulled away and placed his jacket over her figure as she smiled in her sleep while clinging onto it, he smiled before jogging back to the gymnasium. She woke up with a jolt and noticed how the sun shifted and she swore as she got up, she raised a brow when she saw the red jacket and held it up while picking up the ball. Sprinting full speed, she passed the gymnasium and tossed the ball into a basket before running to get her bag. She dialed Toshi numbers as she had the bag over her shoulder while the jacket was in her hand, he answered her and she told him he could pick her up since her team accidentally left her.

She didn't care that she was still in her gear as she ran towards the entrance but tripped over her legs, she swore loudly and prepared herself as she fell to the ground. But she got caught in a pair of arms, her eyes were wide as she stared up into owlish eyes who sparkled as he stared at her. He steadies her with a smile and she thanked him while bowing her head, "Ah! Thank you for catching me." He laughs and a ravenette who had small curls popped out from beside him, asking her as he stared at her, "You're not hurt, are you?" She shakes her head as she reassured, "Nope, not at all."

Her eyes trail to the male who caught her and he looked at her with his owlish golden eyes, studying her. She leaned back as he leaned closer while humming, his friend slapped his head when he stated bluntly, "They weren't kidding when they said that she's beautiful." Flustered, she shakes her head as she tried to refuse that compliment, "I'm not beautiful, rather, I'm pretty average." They blankly stared at her but the owlish looking boy pointed at the red jacket when he noticed, "Oya? Why do you have Kuroo's jacket?" She shrugs with a sheepish smile as she spoke, "That's what I want to find out."

She held it out towards him as she asked, "Is there a chance that you can give it to him? My friend is picking me up any second." He smiles widely as he took it while saying, "Of course, I'm Kotaru Bokuto and this Keiji Akaashi. We're from Fukuodani Academy." Her eyes widen as she recognized him and pointed out with a wide smile, "I thought that I recognized you somewhere. You were in the volleyball monthly magazine, right?" He puffs his chest out as he proudly stated, "I was and still am!" He started to rant but Akaashi motioned her to ignore him, Bokuto continued his rambling and the two started talking.

"You know, I thought that you would've gone to a school in France when I heard the famous player from 'The Saints' graduated," Akaashi mentioned as he stared down at her, she laughs slightly as she awkwardly adjusted her duffle bag while teasing with a grin on her pinkish lips, "I wanted to escape the fame but it seems that it follows me with every move that I make." He nods in understanding from what she meant and he started asking if she enjoyed Japan so far, she would answer with a bright smile.

Bokuto stopped rambling a few minutes ago and slung his arm around her shoulders while holding his phone out as he asked, "You don't mind if we get your number, do you?" She shakes her head told them what her number was, Bokuto was jumping around in excitement while Akaashi was bowing his head at her to which she blushed and told him to raise his head. She was smiling the entire time as she talked to them, she looked over her shoulder when she heard a familiar engine rev slightly and she grinned when she saw Toshi's car.

She bowed at them before trotting towards the car, they both watched how she opened the car and got in as she yelled, "You truly love me if you actually came to pick me up!" They watched how the expensive car drove away and looked at each other in silence, Bokuto smirked as he stated while holding onto Kuroo's jacket that she gave him, "It's going to be fun at the summer training camp if she comes with Karasuno." Akaashi nods in agreement and the two saw Kuroo run towards them with a panicked face, he saw his jacket and sighed out of relief. Meanwhile, she was telling Toshi everything as she changed in the passenger seat, he tried his best not to look at her when she was half-naked.

He felt he needed her more than she could ever imagine...
