Barry found himself walking out of Jitters with a latte that was already cold by the time he got it. By the time he had a sip of the latte, it was colder than Barry would have wanted. Maybe if Central City winter's weren't this cold, things would be different.
Barry began vibrating his hand to generate sparks of lightning, phasing his hand, a trick he recently learnt, through the cup to transfer heat into it.
Barry's mind just wasn't working properly today, cardboard caught fire at about 500 degrees Fahrenheit, and even one of his lightning bolts was at least 10 times hotter than that. Sure enough the cardboard caught fire, only to be extinguished by the coffee and intense cold, yet still leaving a large hole in the cup from which coffee was leaking.
While walking back to Jitters, Barry saw something that made him happy but sad at the same time. Iris was kissing Eddie.
After a few seconds, he realised he was staring, and he decided he didn't need coffee and he should just get to work.
The flashback faded and transformed into another one. This one was more recent, Barry noticed, because as he was running his lightning was white, instead of yellow or orange.
At the CatCo building entrance, he saw Kara kissing James, and felt a similar feeling to what he felt when he saw Iris kissing Eddie.
Barry sped into the building as to avoid having to talk to Kara. Something about Kara kissing James made him feel happy and sad at the same time.
Just like with Iris.
As the flashback faded away, Barry found himself back in the lightning storm that was the speed-force with an expression of shock.
"I can't love her." Barry said.
"Why?" The speed-force questioned.
"Because I'm broken." Barry said.
"No, you were broken, but Kara is putting you together. You were also broken when your mom was killed by the reverse-flash. But Joe and Iris fixed you. You have a family here." The speed force said.
"Thawne." Barry muttered. That man started everything bad that happened to Barry. From his mom's death to the singularity opening his world to the terror of Zoom.
"Yes. He is planning his attack once again. Recently another entity began attacking us. It is stronger, more powerful, and thrives on dark emotions." The speed-force said.
"The negative speed-force is trying to kill you." Barry realised.
"Slowly. Every speedster now has a certain amount of energy to use across the multiverse." The speed-force said.
"And time?" Barry asked, maybe Zoom would lose his powers and the time-stream would be altered.
"No. We quickly focused all our energy on making sure the past was secure. As of now, the speed-force is just a wise old entity that is dying. We can't send time wraiths after our enemies anymore." The speed-force said.
"So I can go back in time and nobody could stop me?" Barry asked.
"You could." The speed-force simply said.
"No catch?" Barry asked.
"None. But in the present, if you decide not to, you will lose your speed in a matter of weeks even if you use none of your speed." The speed-force said.
"If I go back in time, would the speed-force be saved?" Barry asked.
"Time is compicated, but in short, no. We exist beyond space and time, in all dimensions aside from the sage, strength, and still forces, all of which are dying too." The speed force said.
"Thawne is manipulating other forces too?" Barry asked, not surprised there are other forces, as he always had his suspicions.
"Yes. His negative speed-force is slowly taking over all forces, creating what could possibly be a force capable of destroying anything easily. A negative force." The speed-force said. Barry wasn't sure what to say. Despite not showing emotions, the speed-force seemed scared.
If something could make an entity that has lived from the beginning of time feel scared, what chance did anyone have?
"What do I do then?" Barry asked.
"Unite the multiverse." The speed-force said.
"As in, merge all the Earths?" Barry asked.
"52." The speed-force said.
"What?" Barry asked.
"There are 52 Earths left. The negative force and the anti-monitor destroyed an infinite number of other Earths." The entity said.
"Anti-monitor?" Barry asked.
"Mar Novu will explain when the time comes, but now, you must see to finding allies in this fight." The speed-force said.
"Is this goodbye then?" Barry asked.
"We may still communicate with you through visions, but in weeks, or maybe even days, we will be wiped out from existence, and replaced by a darker power.
With that, Barry fell into a portal, landing in the cortex of STAR Labs.
