Chapter 28~ Waking Up.

BRADIE P.O.V.

She didn’t look as bad as what she looked yesterday, she had a bit more colour in her face and her cheeks had a slight rose to them. She looked peaceful, relaxed. At times she would wriggle around a bit, her eyes fluttering as if she were dreaming. It was lunch time and May rang me to see how I was, Danni’s parents flight was delayed, it was 3 hours behind time. So she decided to stay there which left me bored and feeling completely useless. Nurses came in on the hour every hour to check everything until I saw her eyes start to open up. I rushed to her  bedside and held her hand in mine, her eyes slowly waking up. Monitors in the room started to buzz a little loudly. Her eyes found mine and then the fell back asleep again, I guess it was a false alarm, her eyes opened again. This time for real.

“Bradie, is that you?” she asked, her voice strained.

“Yes, it is me,” I replied.

“Are you sure?” She asked, her voice becoming stronger.

“Yes, it is really me. Who else would it be?” I asked.

“Nick?” she asked.

“No I am Bradie, Bradie Webb, your next door neighbour.”

She stopped and looked closer at me. her eyes scanning my whole body.

“Wait, I’m not pregnant am I?” Danni asked.

What kind of a question is that?

“No. You collapsed by your car and then we took you to hospital, you had surgery this morning and had a pace maker fitted. And, no you are not pregnant!” I explained the whole thing.

That’s when Danni’s parents came through the door. I looked at the time, I had to pick Andy and Shaun up.

“Leanne, Mark this is Bradie. Bradie this is Leanne and Mark,” May introduced us.

“Pleased to meet you,” I shook both of their hands, “But you’ll have to excuse me, I have to pick my step- brother and friend up from school,”

“Bradie, don’t leave!” Cried Danni.

I walked back to her bed and whispered in her ear.

“Stress less, I’ll be back. I love you,” and I kissed her forehead.

I left the hospital and grabbed the keys from my pocket, I drove still listening to the CD, I waited in the car park for the two knob heads to come, of course they dawdled towards the car, I turned the music down as both of them got in the car, Andy in the front and Shaun in the back.

“So, how is she?” asked Andy.

Shaun leaned across the front two seats to hear. I explained that she woke up and her parents are with her. I asked them about school and I dropped them off at our house. I had a shower and freshened up. Andy and Shaun had changed clothes and they bumbled around waiting for me, they wanted to see Danni too. I told them to behave unlike last time. I went to the petrol station and filled up Danni’s car as half the tank had already disappeared due to my reckless driving yesterday. We got out of the car and we walked to Danni’s hospital bed. She was still wide awake, with one less machine controlling her. She must be improving. Her eyes lit up as Andy and Shaun came through the door. May introduced everybody to each other and then Shaun and Andy sat at the end of Danni’s bed. I stood up. There was a few laughs and then everybody started to leave.
