Chapter 26~ I Will Wait For You

BRADIE P.O.V.

May insisted that I’d stay the night and I gladly did. I slept in Danni’s bed because May didn’t want me to sleep on the couch. When May went to bed, I went up into Danni’s room, I searched around her room, her teddy bear was still on the bed, a family photo was on her bedside table and a photo of her younger with a boy. That must have been Nick, the friend that she always goes on about. I found her Ipod and I went through it. there was a few Green Day songs, Dido and Bond. I fell asleep listening to it and then I got woken up by a phone ringing. I went down stairs and May was in a dressing gown, it looks like the doctor on the phone. There was a lot of “yeps” and “oks” and then there was a “thankyou Dr Walker,” and then she hung up her phone and then came the waterworks.

“Bradie, she’s going to be fine!” May said.

I let out a breath of relief, now my body relaxed.

“So can we go and see her?” I asked.

“Are you going to school today?” May asked.

“Probably not, I want to be there when she wakes up.”

“Ok, I’ll talk to your mum about it later, feel free to do what ever you like. You can take Danni’s car but take your licence.” May said.

“Thanks May, I appreciate it! I’m going to go up there now, is that alright?” I asked.

“Yeah but take Andy and Shaun to school first, I have to pick up my sister and brother in-law from the airport. Oh and Bradie, thank you.”

“For what?” I asked.

“For keeping me sane.”

Then she went back to her room, I went next door to get changed and to wait for Andy to get ready for school. I grabbed a change of clothes while I was there and a few things to take to the hospital.

“So any news?” asked Andy when I went into the bathroom to brush my teeth.

“Yeah she had a pace maker fitted this morning, she is going to be fine,” I reassured myself.

“So you’re not going to school then?” asked Andy.

“No, I’ll be at the hospital all day. I’m taking you to school though and I’ll pick you up. May said I could use Danni’s car today,”

“Lucky Bastard, I feel horrible for going off at her the other day. But the good thing is that my hair stayed in one place, I don’t have to straighten it today!”

A little touch of Danni. Andy grabbed his bag and waited for me to lock up. I grabbed my spare bag and I opened the garage door to May’s place. I had my permit and I replaced Danni’s “P” plates with mine. Andy got in shot gun and he put in a CD in the stereo. It was the one that we recorded the other day. The one with Danni. It sounded amazing. I drove to Shaun’s house. His eyes looked at me in the drivers side, his eyes with a little jealousy behind them. I explained everything to the both of them properly although Andy pretty much knew, we were step-brothers after all. I dropped them off at school and drove off to the hospital, I listened to Danni’s voice even closer. The way she harmonised with Andy, the way her voice made the track so complete. The sadness of being at a hospital and remembering Danni’s weak body from last night. She was completely pale and tubes and wires connected like networks around her silent body. I asked for her room number and I grabbed some flowers on the way to her room.
