BRADIE P.O.V.

The doctor came out, his eyes looking glum. He took of his gloves that was covered in blood.

“She is stable now, but at one stage we lost her. We want to keep her in ICU for the next 24 hours. This will determine her fate,”

What did he mean we lost her, does that mean at one stage she died? It was just May and I that were left in the waiting room. Andy and Shaun were made to go home by May. They were getting on every bodies nerves. Both May and I tried to back each other up with positive thoughts.

“Can we go and see her?” I asked.

“Yes but only from a distance, you may stand up at the window, we have placed her in a sterile room because her heart is beating via a machine tonight. Tomorrow we will fit a pace maker,”

May grabbed my hand and squeezed it pretty hard. She was really nervous and so was I. We followed Dr walker to the ICU ward. There in her own room was Danni, lying in her bra and kickers with machines coming out of body looking very frail. May lost in and turned to me and began to cry. I turned her away and I looked at Danni, I knew I should have taken her home this morning, then none of this would have happened. I walked May out of the hospital and I walked back to where Danni’s car was. May had parked right next to it.

“I’ll drive it back?” I asked May.

“Yes please. Bradie, do you have your licence with you?” asked May.

“No, but I’ll be careful.” I was still in my uniform. I followed May back to her house. I parked it next to May’s Subaru, and I put my head back into the seat. The car had the new car smell, a slight hint of hairspray and Danni’s spray. I got my bag out of the boot and Danni’s from school. The door was unlocked and I saw May on the couch with a box of tissues, she started to eye the liquor cabinet.

“May, May!” I called and her head looked at me.

“Oh Bradie!” she said and I went to sit next to her. “I knew her condition was serious but I didn’t think it was this serious.” I waited for her to get it all out. “Why are you the nice one? Why can’t all boys be like you? Always supportive and always there. If it wasn’t for you I don’t think that she would have survived.”
