Chapter 24 - Things Finally Went Right

Walking on the almost dark streets with my hand shoved into my back pocket, while the other holding my board. I noticed it was already 5:15p.m. I didn't know I stayed in the beach for so long. I haven't eaten anything since breakfast. My stomach is growling making people stare at me with entertained looks. Rolling my eyes, I checked my pockets hoping I have money with me. And to my luck, I had a hundred.

I rushed to a store a few meters from the sidewalk. The smell of barbeque wafted in my nostrills. "Barbequed Ribs." I thought. I saw a boy somewhat younger my age, fanning the barbeques on the grill, and putting them with barbeque sauce.

The boy looked up and smiled. "Hi."

I smiled back and said, "Umm, hi."

"Unsa'y ato?" (Can I help you?) The boy asked, grinning. Crap. Does he speak english? I understand him, but does he understand me? I don't speak Filipino, I'm used to speak my dad's language. Well, it's worth to try.

"Uhh, h-how much is the-the ribs?" I stuttered. I was so nervous talking to this kid. What if he might get the wrong idea?

"Ah!" He exclaimed, startling me, "No bisaya? I speak english, a little." I cocked my brows and smiled awkwardly.

"Oh, great so umm, how much is the ribs?" I asked pointing to the raw ribs sitting on the tupperware.

"Ahh! Ribs! Umm 30Php. How much you like?" he asked. I was a bit relieved knowing he understands me. He might not be fluent, but atleast he tried his best. And I respect that.

"W-well. I'd like 2pcs. Please? With rice." I pointed to the cube-like thing wrapped with strips of leaves.

He grinned and nodded. "Two puso too?"

"Umm yes, that."

"Okay, please sit over der miss o, while waiting." he pointed to the tables and I nodded in understanding.

"Thank you." He smiled once again and proceeded to his work.

When I walked to the tables, the seats were almost taken, I took a seat close to where the barbeque is, since it's the only one that's vacant. Afterwards the boy shouted about my order and I happily waited here. I took my phone and snap some photos on the barbeque, damn so yummy.

While waiting for my order, an asian girl stood across the table. She flashed me her pretty smile. "Hi."

"Umm, hey." I replied, giving her a small smile.

"Are you alone?" she asked.

"Y-yes. I am."

"Do you mind if I sit here with you? All the tables are occupied." I raised my eyebroes at the last statement, and I glanced at the tables in this room. Wow, that escalated quick.

I looked back at her, she was waiting for me to say something. "Oh, no. It-it's fine."

"Great! I'm Cassidy by the way." she sat and reached for my hand after she told me her name.

"Jane." I shook hands with her, she scutinized me. I saw a bit smirk on her face, but she then replaced it with another smile.

"Hi, Jane. Nice to meet you."
