Chapter 32 - Be the Player
Making new friends in Riverdale wasn't a problem for me, but here in St. Catherine, it is. Gripping my lunch tray, I scanned the cafeteria for vacant seats. I was just standing there like an idiot, waiting for a clear table. But I had no luck. Why is it always like this?
The thing here is that they don't give a crap about others but themselves. I miss having a group like in Riverdale. Even the nerds had to clear their table just for me. Sighing, I guess I'll have to eat my lunch in the utilities.
"Hi." I turned to see little red with those cute brown wide eyes.
"Hello." I smiled at Hailey. She pulled my arm leading me to her table.
"Jane, you can sit with me. Come." She said sweetly.
"Umm, thanks Hailey."
As soon as we made it to their table, she greeted her friends with glee. "Hey guys, if you don't mind. My friend Jane wants to sit with us." She turned to me showing off those pearly whites, "Jane, this Katelyn, Blake, Jonas and Caroline."
I waved at her friends looking all shocked, stunned... Somehow I felt nervous because they weren't pleased to see me. I decided to smile at them, I feel comfortable because afterwards they showed me a genuine smile. "Hi, I'm Jane Edwards."
"I know you! You used to study here. You kept the school on top." The blonde girl Caroline said.
I settled down and started eating, they laughed when they remembered me. They already know me. I'm a bit flattered. "Yeah, you were still... Chubby." Blake, the brunette chuckled lightly.
"And now, damn girl." Jonas seemed perverted to me, but he's cool. I hope.
"Thanks guys. Honestly. You're the only ones I can call friends. I'm having a hard time making friends here."
"Why? You're always around Nick." Hailey suddenly inquired.
"He's not really a friend. He's a -" I tried explaining but I was cut off when I heard my name.
"Jane Riley Edwards."
Hailey groaned, "Oh my god, Jane. Don't look behind you."
But I did anyways, I saw Nick carrying new and improved flashcards with Zac carrying the bouquet, "Jane Riley Edwards, for the last time. Will you go out with me?"
My heart started pounding, people's eyes were on us. Hailey frowned. I know I hated him, but I have this part of me that I want him. And then I thought of my promise...
I won't say yes even if you'll take your clothes off. And when I get rid all of these, you'll be so in love with me and it's my turn to break your heart.
It's time for me to be the player. I know it's a huge risk. I might fall for my own trap. But I know what I promised. I need to do it. I'll show him that breaking me before hurts like hell now that he's going to date me.
I looked at Hailey, she shook her head. I know she's smart and I know she knows what I'm thinking. I don't care. I have to do this for myself.
Roars of people interrupted my thoughts and I snapped back to reality. I stood from where I was sitting, and fixed myself. I wanted to embarrass him, but then I saw Chase with his cute happy face. Aww. He's carrying the chocolates.
I know Cassidy Chiu is watching somewhere. Another person I wanted to humiliate. Biting my lower lip and inhaled deeply. "Yes."
"Yes?" he asked with wide eyes.
