Chapter 13 – So Much for Everything

Who says doing nothing is awesome? It totally sucks. I don’t like spending my day lying around gobble up some food. What I’d like to do is get out of here and feel the wind brush on my face. Too bad, I had to get used to being lazy because of this thing.

Stupid broken leg. Stupid crutches. Stupid Nick.

Anyway, the boys went to get my dad, moments later they arrived and dad picked me up. Nick was bringing my crutches as we descended downstairs. My crutches were lucky because it has been fought over by two hot guys. Too bad they’re immature. It took them time to get down because they had to do the rock, paper, scissors. I rolled my eyes as I watched them.

Dad carried me to our front porch. I saw my mother with Mr. and Mrs. Anderson chatting under the shade of the huge star apple tree. I realized my other relatives already left.

The view from the porch is breath taking. Mom added more flowers in our front garden and I bet Mrs. Anderson helped her out.

“Alrighty pumpkin, here we go.” he carefully settled me to our wooden chair and pulled the table closer to me. He lifted my broken leg and placed it on top of the table with a soft pillow under my leg.

“Thanks dad.” I kissed his cheek.

“You’re welcome pumpkin pie,” he stroked my hair to the back of my ear. “You lucky pickle.”

“Huh?” I asked clearly confused. My dad was trying to smile although it was pretty clear to me that he looked annoyed. It doesn’t take Einstein to tell you that. It’s clearly written on his face.

“You got two guys liking you.” he mumbled. Crossing his arms. Is my old man jelly bean?

I giggled, “That’s just silly dad. I just met Dylan and–”

He cut me off and said, “He asked you out.”

“Y-yeah, but we’re not a thing dad.” I told him honestly.

Yet, Honey.“ he empahsized. “Yet.”

“An-and Nick is barely even my friend. He’s just doing that because he felt responsible of what happened to me.”

“Yeah, but he kept on throwing some shuttlecocks in our front yard. That’s one lame trick.” he said.

“He’s just bored dad.” I reasoned. Wait, lame trick? “What lame trick dad? Did you used to do that before?”

“Okay, if you say so. Just one thing Jane. Don’t let any guy go into your room without me knowing, got it?” He said seriously ignoring my last comment.

“Yes daddy.”

“And if they try to date you, let me know so that I’ll have the chance to put on my scary face.” I rolled my eyes at my jealous father. Whose father wouldn’t right? Especially when I’m the only daughter. “Understood pumpkin?”

“Yes, daddy. I perfectly understand you.”

“Good. Enjoy the fresh air pumpkin.” he gave me a quick tight hug and swiftly went to mom.

Dylan appeared seconds after. I smiled at him and patted a spot next to me. He walked towards me and smiled back.

We were silent for a while, I looked around thinking of something to talk about. I opened my mouth to say something but Dylan said something first, “Jane, I can’t stay long.”

My smile dropped. “Why?”

“My mom’s looking for me. She wants me to go with her grocery shopping.” he touched my cheek.
