Chapter 21 – I See Darkness
It wasn’t long, the food was blessed and then people attacked the food. Okay, I attacked first. What’d you expect, I’m hungry and I want grilled ribs. My friends and cousins looked at me amusingly, like I haven’t eaten for years. I just ignored them and mind my own business.
After getting some food, I walked away from the buffet table and searched for a place to eat peacefully. I saw a nice spot under the tree which is bridging mine and Nick’s room.
“Ahh peace at last.” I said as I took a seat on the huge root of the tree. I placed my spoon and fork at the edge of my plate and started eating with my fingers. I first took a bite at the good looking ribs sitting on my plate. “Hmm, heaven.” I moaned, letting my mouth feel the sweet juices of the meat from the ribs.
“Wow, you’re gonna eat all that?” I got startled hearing Nick’s sexy voice. I look up to him wearing an amused grin as he sat next to me.
“I’m not talking to you.” I turned my back, and continued eating.
He asked, as he took a seat next to me. “You won’t?” I can feel his hot breath fanning my right cheek, sending electricity in my body. God I have to keep my cool with this guy.
“I- I won’t.” Crap, did I just stutter? I shook my head and shoved more food in my mouth. Jane, your manners. You’re seating next to Nick Anderson! Don’t be such a pig. Upon realization, I slowly munch my food and swallowed it like a normal person.
“Then why are you talking to me right now?” he scooted closer. I wasn’t facing him but I can feel his signature smirk on his face.
“W-well, I’m not talking to you, starting right now.”
He chuckled, “Jane, you can’t avoid me.” How dare he talk to me like we’re close? Well in this kind of distance we are, but that’s not the point. I was itching to talk to him, but I must not. I can do this. I’m awesome. Yeah, I am. He heaved a sigh, “Fine. I’m sorry about my lame ass joke, yesterday.” I slowly turned my head to face him. Oh my fudge balls, he’s hotter than what I remembered. “Although, you should’ve really seen your pretty face– I- I mean, nothing.”
He thinks I’m pretty? :”3 Oh god, snap out of it Jane! Even though it’s dark, I got to his beautiful eyes under the moonlight and billions of stars, I blinked a couple of times and calm myself. “How’d you know I’m here?”
He smiled, oh my gosh that smile again. Sometimes I wanted to hit myself for not remembering what I told myself before I even got here. “Let’s just say, Great Minds think alike.”
I rolled my eyes at his excuse. “Pfft.” I continued eating, I realized why I had broccoli gelatin in my plate. I hate broccoli. They looked like mini-trees. I don’t like to eat a tree.
“Why can’t you stay here?” I look at Nick’s sparkling blue eyes, I try to hide the thing of me scrutinizing him.
Half of me wanted to stay, the other half of me wanted to get away from the pain. I wanted to tell him that. But instead, I blurted out, “Why can’t you shut up and eat?”
He chuckled lightly as he ran his fingers through his disheveled hair. “Sorry. Alright I’ll shut up.” Finally! Silence. But it wasn’t that long when he speaks again, “Umm, Jane?”
“You just really can’t shut the hell up while eating can you?”
“I- I wanted to tell you this before you leave. I– I just wanted to get this off my chest.” From unknown reasons, my heart starts to beat fast than it’s normal rate. Why am I acting this way? It’s not like he’ll confess or something. “I– uhhh... You– you...”
