Liam's P.O.V.
Jordan has been asleep for an hour and a half. We're about twenty minutes from her mom's. Part of me wants to wake her, so she knows, but the other part of me knows how tired she is. I can feel some of it through the mate bond. I look over at her, her blue hair is cascading down the sides of her face and body. She is somewhat balled up in the seat and her head is leaned on her hand. She has a little bit of drool coming out of the left side of her mouth, my mate is so stunning.
A smile takes over my face, I reach over and slightly shake her. "Jordan, we're almost there princess," She groans and moves a little bit, but doesn't wake up. "Jordan, wake up," I slightly push her hand that her head is leaning on. Her head almost falls, and she shoots awake, looking around with a crazed look. I grab her hand and intertwine our fingers.
Jordan relaxes, but surprisingly she doesn't snatch her hand away. She just pulls our hands to her lap and sits them there. "Liam..." Jordan trails out and looks out the window. I squeeze her hand, hoping she continues. "My mom comes back into town once a year to visit. It is too dangerous for her here, so her cottage is surrounded in an invisible barrier. Once we get there, I will have to perform a spell for us to get in. While she is here for a visit, I have serious matters to discuss her. You may meet her, but I do need time alone with her," Jordan finishes her explanation and my forehead creases.
Deciding against an argument, I just nod my head and keep driving. We reach the coordinates on the GPS and Jordan puts her hood up before stepping out of the car. She walks in front of the car and whispers something under her breath. Jordan waves her hands to reveal a cute, cozy cottage. It is in the woods, but the area around is cleared of trees. There is a large garden to the left of the cottage and some chickens scattered throughout the yard.
Jordan walks back to the car and gets in. "Jordan, if your mom only visits once a year, why does she have chickens and a garden?" I question while pulling up the driveway to the front door. Jordan shrugs before pulling the hood back down.
"Frank takes care of the chickens and garden. A lot of the fruits and vegetables we eat at the pack house are from here. Mom says she doesn't like coming to an unwelcoming home, so I did all I could to make it as welcoming as possible. Plus, she loves working in the garden while she is here," She stops her explanation and gets out of the car. A short woman with black hair and Jordan's same seafoam green eyes walks out of the door. The woman's smile grows when she sees Jordan.
"My baby!" The woman opens her arms and Jordan immediately embraces her in a tight hug. They hold each other for a while. I get out of the car and awkwardly stand next to it. I don't want to interrupt their moment.
"Mom, this is Liam. My mate. Liam this is my mother, Athena," Jordan introduces us and her mom stares with her mouth agape between the two of us. Athena rushes over to greet me.
"OH MY GOD!! It is so nice to meet you! Hi, I'm Athena. Jordan didn't tell me she had found her mate," She hugs me and looks back at her daughter with the typical mad mom look. I grin.
"It is nice to meet you as well Ms. Athena. We've had a rough past few days, so she probably just hasn't had much time to let you know about me. That's the only logical reason," Athena laughs and Jordan glares at me. Her mom smiles at her.
"Well, sounds like we have a lot to catch up on. Jordan, stop glaring at Liam! Be nice!" Her mom reprimands her and I stick my tongue out at Jordan which just makes her even madder. Ms. Athena escorts us in and makes us all glasses of lemonade. We thank her and sit on the couch while she sits across from us on the loveseat.
"Well, Jordan, catch me up on everything," Ms. Athena clasps her hands and sits waiting. Jordan explains the battle with Drake and his pack, us meeting, things that happened before we met, the council's decision to put her on trial, and some pack drama. Ms. Athena stares and chimes in when she feels necessary.
Jordan wraps up her explanation, and looks at her mom waiting, expectantly. Ms. Athena then proceeds to tell Jordan about the last five months she has been away. She was all over Europe and parts of Africa. She describes beautiful trees, streams, and fields to us. Her eyes are full of longing and I can tell she misses it already.
I reach over to grab Jordan's hand. Jordan doesn't fight me holding her hand, but her mind is elsewhere. The seafoam green eyes she possesses are filled with secrets, filled with pain, and anger. So much anger. I rub my thumb over her hand lightly trying to pull her back to the present. I look back at Ms. Athena and see her studying our hands being intertwined and Jordan's face. So, I'm not the only one who notices something is wrong with her.
I want nothing more than to ask why she was crying; I want to know what is hurting her. I want to ask about Drake, the cave, her powers, the training with the council, the wolves from the battle, everything. I know nothing about her, but I have been defending her to Braven and the council. What if that pain and anger boil over? What if the council and Braven are right and she really isn't meant to lead with me?
Jordan clears her throat and pulls me from my thoughts. She turns to me and gives me a small smile, "Liam, I would like to visit with my mother in private now." I give her a nod and release her hand. I go outside and decide to go for a run around the forest while they speak, hoping it can provide some more clarity.
