Liam's P.O.V.
Jordan has been peacefully sleeping for two hours now. She looks so at peace. I was going to ask her to drive an hour back, but she just seems like she really needs her sleep right now. How am I going to ask her about the things Drake said? How am I going to help her keep her cool for the next month during this trial?
I run my hand through my hair as questions continue to swirl in my head. This mate shit is hard. I knew it wouldn't be all rainbows and butterflies, but I didn't expect all of this so soon. I don't even know her middle name, her favorite color, the way her mind works, or her favorite flowers. Hell, we haven't even been on a date. This is not at all how I expected mateship to go, but Jordan just makes everything so difficult. We also met under some shitty circumstances, and she is now on trial. Things have been against us from the beginning.
Sighing, I attempt to get my thoughts under control. I am the Royal Alpha, why is my tail tucked? Jordan stirs a little and I look over to meet her cool green eyes. They're red and bloodshot from crying all day, but her eyes bring me so much clarity. She is worth everything, the Moon Goddess knew what she was doing. I just have to trust in the process.
"Thank you, Liam," Jordan mumbles and resituates in her seat. My focus stays on the road, but out of my peripheral vision I can see her with a sad smile on her face. I don't like this. I have to cheer her up or do something.
"So, how was your nap?" I immediately want to facepalm after asking. Why does she have this much of an effect over me now. Jordan gives me a strange look and then touches my forehead with the back of her hand.
"Are you feeling alright?" She begins to look me over with the slightest sign of worry in her eyes. I can't help but let out a chuckle at her.
"I'm alright, princess. Thanks for being so concerned though," I smirk, and she immediately stops looking me over and touching me. Well, damn. Messed that up too.
Jordan turns to look out the window, growing even more quiet on me. I just want to know what she thinks about. If only the mating ritual was complete, I would be able to feel and understand what she is going through. I clear my throat. I have to stop being such a wuss and just talk to her.
"Jordan, what happened back there?" I glance over at her. Her body tenses slightly, but she quickly turns and flashes me a smile.
"Nothing really. Just talked with my mother," She gives me another fake smile and I shake my head.
"If we are ever going to get anywhere, then you have to stop lying to me and start expressing with me. You are supposed to be my mate, the Royal Luna, I need more from you. The pack will need more from you," I sigh and try to not let my frustration seep through. This has to be talked about calmly.
"I know... You're right..." She moves her hair from her face and takes a deep, shaky breath. "Athena just informed me that Malcom was never my father. Malcom killed my real father Ezekial when I was young. He kidnapped my mother and me. She let me get beaten and abused by this man just so she wouldn't. Malcom is dead, Drake is dead, and in my eyes so is she," Jordan calmly rattles off. Tears form in her eyes, but she quickly wipes them and regains her composure. "Drake raped me when I was fourteen," She mumbles very quietly. I almost didn't catch it even with my wolf hearing.
My hand grabs her and intertwines our fingers. My thumb rubs small circles over her hand trying to comfort her any way I can. "Jordan... I'm so-"
"Stop. Please don't say you're sorry or anything. I went through it, and now I am the person I am because of it. I have to keep going Liam. I can't let myself sink into a dark place. I'm afraid if I do, I may never see the light again," She turns to look back out the car window. I don't bother asking her anything else right now. I know she needs space right now. I can't imagine how she feels. Braven and my parents were very loving, caring people.
I pull up to the packhouse and park her car. She is still staring out the window, unmoving. "Jordan, we're here," I squeeze her hand. Jordan's head bobs up and down. I drop her hand and get out of the car. After getting out of the car, I rush to her side and open the door. I scoop her up in my arms. Surprisingly, she cuddles into me. My heart feels so full and warmth spreads over my whole body. Grim is purring like a cat which causes me to chuckle a little.
"Liam hold on tight," She quietly mumbles. I immediately pull her closer to me in my arms. A blinding white light envelops us. It's so bright I can't bear to keep my eyes open any longer. My feet land on the grass with a thud. Looking around, I can recognize some things. I realize we are about a twenty-minute walk from the cave.
Jordan climbs down from my arms. She blushes madly, then takes off behind a tree to begin undressing. I do the same. We shift and take off towards the cave, playing with each other the whole way. I'm glad Grim and Estelle are getting this time together. Maybe he'll shut up about it now.
We chase and yip at each other the whole way there. Upon arrival, Jordan shifts and mutters some words that I don't understand at all. I wait impatiently for her to open it. I want to talk and find out what is all going on in this room.
Jordan turns to look at me, then walks into the entrance. I shift and follow her in. Jordan avoids looking at me, but I can't take my eyes off her. She's blushing like a cute little tomato. Her beautiful blue hair is flowing around her body, it looks fluorescent in the cave's lighting. I brush her arm with my fingertips.
"You look beautiful," I mutter to her. She smiles and thanks me. We start walking deeper into the cave. The energy in the air is thick and filled with power. My skin starts to crawl. This is negative and dark. "Jordan, what's back here?" I start looking around. It starts to get darker and darker as we keep walking.
"You'll see. Please refrain from shifting or attacking," She stops us and mutters another spell. How does she have this power? Torches light up along the wall of the cave. I gasp and look at her with shock. She cannot be a wolf.
"Jordan, what are you? What is back here?" I can feel the dark energy creeping in deeper. Jordan grabs my hand and begins leading me deeper into the cave. I shudder slightly but keep an emotionless face.
"Liam, I am a werewolf, but my grandmother was a demoness. My grandfather was a wolf. Athena, my egg donor, is a wolf. The demon runs in her blood, but she isn't one. We learned that is why I shifted so young. I began practicing with it. I used it for protection from Malcom sometimes. It was mostly dark magic; my soul is corrupt from it. That's why I am so easily angered at times, but I have refrained from using it anymore. Back here is... It was my escape..." She trails off and we reach a large opening.
