i watched as laurens took y/n by the hand and lead her to the dance floor, despite her not really wanting to dance, i sighed softly and tried to avoid looking in their direction, i had just gotten the courage to speak with alexanders sister and john just had to butt in, which should make me feel as upset as i do but thats probably because we only spoke for less then five minutes, i just stood to the side and drank, i didnt want to embarrass myself my asking someone to dance, so i just stayed where i was, i couldnt help but notice john pull y/n aside and to the corner of the dance floor, i watched them, john held her arms, slowly teaching her the steps, it was cute seeing her blush from embarrassment when she messed up, soon they both walked back over

"i told you that was a bad idea" y/n said crossing her arms

"ok so you're not great but you were starting to get better you just gotta let me help you and by the end of the night you'll be a master at dancing " john said smiling

"no no, im not going back there" y/n huffed

"oh come on you'll be fine! i'll be right by your side i promise " john smiled

y/n looked around "oh! john look! over there!" she pointed to a girl in a yellow dress "thats peggy Schuyler my friend, she looks like shes being bothered by those guys, can you help her for me?" she asked sweetly 

"huh?" john looked over at the girl y/n pointed to "your trying to get rid of me, aren't  you"

"whaaaat? noooo im not..i would never..." y/n used a very sarcastic tone, john narrowed his eyes at her as he walked over to peggy schuyler 

i laughed a little "so i take it dancing was not fun?"

y/n looked at me "i think i stepped on him at least 20 times and he was just to nice to say anything" 

i smiled "well at least your done " 

y/n nodded "yeah, thank god" she smiled brightly, it was nice, it made me feel happy but that happiness quickly faded when an older man, he looked to be around 30 walked over to y/n, gently taking her hand and kissing it as he asked her to dance, i felt a little sick watching this, before y/n could even say anything he was already walking her to the dance floor, i couldnt watch this happen again, i walked out of the room, looking for a bathroom

i tried to politely decline this man but i kept stumbling on my words, when he asked if i was alright all i could say was 'yes' he held me way to close to him as he lead me in the dance, i felt bad in this situation, but luckily the next song to play was one where you pass your partner, hopefully i could find one of my or my brothers friends to help me i got passed to a mostly people i didnt know i also got passed to alexander but i decided against asking him for help, he'd probably do more bad then good anyway, after a few more passes i found john

"john..thank god your dancing" i could hardly hide my feelings at this point, i thought i was gonna be suck with that man all night

"whats going on?.." john asked, he seemed a little concerned "i thought you werent  going to dance anymore" 

we spoke in hushed voices, as i told him about the man as quickly as i could before being passed to my next partner, i also had to apologize to everyone i danced with for being such a bad dancer, the song ended and i had returned to the man half way threw the next song he slowly pulled me away from the dance floor, i got worried as john hadnt come over to help me yet, he took me out of the main ball room

"w-where are we going?..." i asked, trying my best to hide how nervous i was, he pulled me close to him, i put my hands against his chest to keep some distance between us, before he could say anything i heard johns voice 

"is everything alright here?" john asked walking over, he looked like he was about to take his jacket off and do something rash 

"everything is fine" the man responded 

"well, im afraid i wasnt asking you" john said and looked at me 

i didnt say anything, i dont think i could, i just looked at john as him and the man started to argue, i felt tears forming in my eyes when i heard a french accent 

"whats going on here?" lafayette asked walking over to the three of us

"nothing" the man said, john started to take his jacket off but lafayette stopped him 

"i see you've been keeping my wife accompanied while i stepped away, thank you, mon ange come over to me, i've missed you" lafayette said holding his hand out to me, smiling, i was surprised but thankful, the man let me go and i quickly took lafayettes hand and rushed to his side, laf wrapped his arms around me

"your wife huh.." the man angrily mumbled as he walked away

john fixed his jacket as he kept his eyes on the man

lafayette looked down at me as i was as close to him as i could get after the man let go of me "are you alright?.." he asked worriedly

i nodded "yeah..im fine...thank you.." i looked up at him, him looked so concerned

"what happened?" laf asked

"i..uhm..i dont know..he didnt exactly wait for me to answer any of his questions and before i knew it we where dancing and then just as quickly we where leaving-" i rambled on a bit before john walked over, putting a hand on my shoulder 

"are you alright?.." john asked, i just nodded

lafayette didnt let go of me just yet, but he slowly loosened his arms, he was being very protective over me, it was kinda nice so i didnt say anything, honestly i was just glad that they both came to my rescue, i rested my head on lafayette slowly as he just kept his arms around me

"hey..laf, how'd you know saying you where y/ns husband would get that guy to leave her alone?" john asked

"oh? uhm..well it was just a guess, but i think he only let go because there was two of us and one of him" laf said with a slight shrug 

john nodded "well, i think its safe to let y/n go now...and head back, before anyone notices " we both nod in agreement 

lafayette took his hands off of me and smiled "sorry- i should have let go of you awhile ago-" he blushed softly, i smiled and john held my hand, i then held lafs hand, all three of us walked back into the ball room when we got to the side of the dance floor i let go of both of their hands and ran up to peggy, before either of the boys could say or do anything, i spent the rest of the night with peggy, when the night was over me and peggy locked arms as we waited outside, peggy waited for her sisters and i waited for alexander, after around 10 minutes angelica had joined us in waiting and we all spotted who we where waiting for 

"alexander!" i called

"eliza!" peggy and angelica called

alexander and eliza blushed softly as they looked in our direction, they exchanged small pieces of paper before walking over, me and alexander left the schuyler sisters and went to our home, i had already packed my small bag for the war, i didnt have much so it was easy to pack, tomorrow i'd head to the camp with alexander and i'd start working as a nurse, i could hardly sleep i was so excited
