chapter five; Winter Arrives
"Lucy, don't be like that. Just talk to me."Lucy Reese Collins
I LOOK UP IN THE COMMON ROOM AND SEE HOW SNOWFLAKES FALL ON THE GLASS SPHERE. "It snows," I mumble and my friends turn around. "What did you say?" I point up. "Look, it's snowing," I say again and now they actually realise what I am talking about. "We should do a snowball fight!" It's Hudson and I give him a look. "I mean, that's not a bad idea." Says Isaac before I can say something. "I agree." Say the others as well. I stay silent. "I will join you later," I say as I get up. Isaac grabs my arm. "Is something wrong?" "No, but I got a letter from my dad and I need to read it. It is probably about Christmas." "You haven't read it yet?" Jo looks at me with a concerned look on her face. "I haven't but I will now, don't worry." "Okay then, but promise me you will join us." Jo knows how terrible my relationship with my dad is. "I promise." I smile a bit and after I walk away.
I sit down in an abandoned classroom and grab the letter from my robe. It looks like he rushed his way through the letter because the handwriting is sloppy. Thanks, dad for taking your time for me. I open the envelope and grab the piece of parchment. My eyes go over the words and I bite my lip to make sure I won't cry.
This Christmas your mom will be away which means that you will spend it with me. We will attend to a Ball at the Grimmauld place. I would like to introduce you to some people and I expect you to behave yourself. I know that's hard for you, but there will be consequences if you embarrass me.
Tears roll down my cheek because I know this Christmas won't be like others. Usually, my mom is there to calm him down, but now... I don't know what will happen. "Lucy?" I look up but I barely see the person in front of me. "Just leave me alone," I say as I try to wipe the tears away, but it's in vain because I can't stop crying. Finally, my view gets a bit more clear and I recognise the person in front of me. Nathaniel. "Go away please." I cry. He doesn't say anything and sits down next to me. He wraps his arms around me, for once I don't care that it's Nathaniel and I can only cry. "Sst, Lucy." I lean against his chest trying to get myself under control. From the corner of my eyes, I see someone standing, but I ignore it. I can not deal with someone else right now.
After a while, I escape from Nate's grip. I wipe my tears away and I can't help but look at the place I saw someone earlier. The person is gone. "Lucy, are you okay?" Nate looks at me and I can see that he's concerned. "I am fine, why wouldn't I be okay," I say as I get up and brush off the dirt on my sweater. "Lucy don't be like that. Just talk to me." "Why would I talk to you?" I walk away from him, When I arrive at the door I turn around one last time. "Oh, and Lanchester, if you ever tell anyone about this I will ruin you." After those words I leave the classroom. "Lucy! Just wait! Luce!" I ignore him and run to the front door of Hogwarts.
