chapter twenty-four; A crack in the glass
"You're mother came by through the floo-system this morning."Lucy Reese Collins
I AM ON MY WAY TO POTIONS WHEN SOMEONE PATS MY SHOULDER. I turn around and see one of Emma's friends Katie. "What do you want, Katie?" "I want you to stay away from Charles and his friends." She says mean and with confidence in her voice. "They are my friends, I am not going to ignore them because you say I should." "You didn't hear then? Charles and I are dating." She grins while scanning me. A laugh escapes my mouth. "What?" She looks at me for a moment. "Dear Katie, Charles only dates you because we have a fight about having sex with others. He just wants to prove his point." "You're lying." She stutters a bit angrily.
"Luce darling, you are not supposed to tell them." We both hear what makes us turn around. "Hello to you too, Garfield." I grin as I bite my lip a bit. Silence. "I already fucked her, you know." He says what makes me look at Katie for a moment, who is smiling. Wow, she really thinks he is going to stay with her. "When?" I ask trying not to grin. "After the Yule Ball." Now it's my turn to smile. "That means I was first." His face falls. "That means 11-10 for me, Charles." "You and Noah?" He says confused but also angry. It's like Katie isn't even here right now. "I didn't say anything about me and Noah, but I have to go, I still have one class before I can go to Hogsmeade." "Who are you going with?" "Reggie, I am going with him. I need to talk about something." We both start walking again, leaving Katie. "About running away from home?" I nod a bit, I totally forgot that he knows everything. "Yeah...-" Right before we arrive he stops me. Forcing me to look at him. "Did your boy kiss you as I kiss you?" He whispers and after his lips touch mine for a moment. The kiss is rough and I must say, I kind of missed it. When we separate again he grins. "We should get inside. We are already late." I nod and quickly step in front of him. "You were so much better than Katie." He whispers but I act like I didn't hear him and open the door.
"Miss Collins, Mister Garfield, why are you late?" I hear Slughorn say but my eyes are focussed on the bureau. Memories flashback and I can't focus for a moment. "We were on our way to the courtyard, we forgot there was another lesson before Hogsmeade, right Luce?" Charles says and after he hits me. "Ouch! Yeah we were, I am sorry." I quickly say still looking at the bureau. "Ahh sit down then." We sit down on our spot and Nate and Noah turn to us. "What went wrong there, Luce?" Nate asks while laughing. I shake my head a bit and look at the boy. "Nothing, I just blacked out," I say exchanging a look with Noah. He grins and runs his hand through his hair after he turns back and focusses on Slughorn.
That afternoon Regulus and I sit in the Three broomsticks. Narcissa and Bella just left so now it's just the two of us. I nervously hold the cup with butterbeer. "What's wrong?" "Reggie, you have to understand that I am sorry and we will fix it for you too." He sighs and puts down his cup. "You are going to run away...-" He wants to stand but I stop him. "Please stay, I talked to James and your brother, they said there was an opportunity for you to stay with the Potters. I will go to Jo, but we will still hang out." "Why can't you just stay there?! It's hard for me too, you know? My family isn't perfect at all." He says a bit angrily. "I am going to get new butterbeer, stay here, please. I will explain it to you." I walk to the bar and soon I get to butterbeer. The cups are really full so I roll up my sleeves. James and Sirius who came here to look out for us look at my arm. "What is that?" "Who did that?" I want to roll it down again. "Don't! This will help him choose the right side." James says while stopping me. "Just go back and act like nothing is wrong." I do as he says and I walk back to Regulus. I give him the butterbeer and feel his eyes on my arm. "Luce, what's that?" He wants to grab my arm but I quickly roll my sleeve down. "Luce!" "Leave it Regulus. Nothing I can say will make you feel differently. Just leave it!" I stand and grab my jacket. "What are you going to do?" "I am going back to the castle. Nothing I say can make you think differently. You're just like your brother! You think everything sucks at your place but you don't think about others! You don't think about me, how my dad literally tortured me, while you were at Hogwarts!" "I am nothing like my brother!" He says angrily. My eyes pool and I notice how almost the whole cafe looks at me. "Luce..-" Regulus starts but I stop him. "I have to go."
