"3... 2... 1..." I whisper to myself, eyes closed and fingers crossed.
A slow breath left my cold lips as I fell back into my pillow. Arms and legs completely stretched out in my bed.
Hearing a quiet purr on the right made me smile as I opened my eyes, looking over to my cat who was watching me with a confused look written all over her face.
"I know, it's stupid that I had a little hope that it would actually work." I laughed a bit, turning onto my side so I could pat my cat.
Her purring always calmed me down in those cold and lonely nights where I hoped that stupid imaginations like these would actually come true.
I read that it was normal for kids back then to get their own personal holy guardian, who would guide them through their lives when they turn 18 and got my hopes up, since today was the day I was born, 18 years ago.
I know that it's a stupid thing to believe in and that it's most likely that these stories about their own "guardians" are made up and completely fake but to be honest, my life right now isn't the best and I really wouldn't mind if any type of god would send me some of his helpers to get me on the right path.
The purrs got quieter, indicating that my cat most likely fell asleep.
"Yeah, you're right. We both should have been asleep hours ago already. I think it's time for me to go to sleep now as well." I whispered to my cat, turning around to take a last look onto the watch on my night desk.
'12:15 am'
...
"Ugh, I hate cats. Someone get it off me!" I hear someone whine, causing me to slowly wake up.
My eyes widen as the adrenaline rushes through my body. I jump out of my bed and grab something from my night desk, pointing onto the person sitting on my swivel chair.
"Who the fuck are you, get out of my house!" I scream, getting the attention of whoever was sitting on my chair.
"You're kinda rude for somebody who was hoping for a 'guardian' all the time." The stranger said with a raised eyebrow, her cat-like eyes paying attention to the object in my hand. "Were you trying to defend yourself with a lamp? No wonder you're going to die a stupid way."
"Guardian? Die in a stupid way?" I think out loud, eyes growing wider as the realization hit me "There is no fucking wa-."
"Yeah yeah, let's skip all this nonsense. You're 18 now and apparently the higher ones wanted me to guard you or some other shit and now I'm here." She interrupted me, stretching in my chair "Also get this asshole off me!" She adds, pointing onto my cat that was taking a nap on her lap.
I slowly walked over to her, still not believing that all of this is real and calmly picked up my cat, just to put her back onto my bed where she was still sleeping like nothing happened.
"Why is my guardian a woman?" I whisper to myself nervously as I try not to stare at that obviously breathtaking person.
I hear a chuckle, followed by steps, turning all my attention to my "guardian" who was now right in front of me. Her right hand softly touching my left cheek, leaning in closer until I felt her breath on my lips.
"What? Feeling nervous around pretty women?"
I felt my heartbeat in every part of my body, my breath completely on hold as I got a really close look at her pretty eyes.
"You're kinda cute." She whispers, followed by a teasing kiss on my cheek.
The distance between our faces got bigger and bigger as she just turned around and walked out of my room without a word, leaving me all alone.
