The title says it all. Enjoy this break from Frerard :P
The last time Gerard had seen her face, it'd been high school. 2001.
(DON'T EVEN REFERENCE THE SUMMER OF 2001! Jk, go ahead I guess. Also, I'm writing this as if Gerard is 33 in 2019, which is how old he was in Danger Days era, so if I'm doing my math correctly, he'd be 15 in 2001.)
He and Lyndsey had been sitting on the soccer field, after school hours. Technically, they weren't supposed to be there, but neither cared.
The school dance was coming up, and Gerard was dying to ask Lyndsey out, but, like most high school boys, was too nervous. He eyed a daffodil growing near his foot and considered picking it. Does Lyndsey even LIKE flowers? I mean, most girls do... maybe? Poor angst ridden Gerard.
"It's beautiful isn't it? The sunset," Lyndsey said, breaking Gerard out of his thoughts. "Oh, yeah," he replied. "I love this, just you, me, sitting on the soccer field," Lyndsey added. "Illegally," Gerard joked. "There's a difference between 'illegal' and 'unusual'," Lyndsey chuckled. "Anyways... this is all so perfect. I hope it never changes." "Me too," Gerard agreed.
********************************************
It HAD changed. Thirteen years later, the fires had broken out. A company called Better Living Industries had taken over, and Gerard, his brother Mikey, and their friends Frank and Ray, had moved out of Battery City and into the desert, as Killjoys -- the rebels who defied Bat. City's cleanliness and order. They went by new names, as well: Party Poison, Kobra Kid, Fun Ghoul, and Jet Star. Gerard had changed his hair color from black (yes I know that's not his natural hair color, just go with it) to bright red.
Oftentimes, he found himself thinking of Lyndsey. What had happened to her after BLInd had taken over? Had she been turned into a Draculoid? Or even worse, stripped of her emotions?
Poison glanced down at the daffodil. Somehow, even after being picked out of the ground and kept in the back pocket of his jeans, it still had most of its petals, and was in semi-good condition. Whenever he looked at it, he made the same vow -- to give it to Lyndsey, if he ever found her again.
"Hey guys, let's go for a drive," he suggested. "As soon as I get done fixing the engine," Ghoul said from outside. His vest, shirt, and pants were greasy, but he didn't seem to mind. "Yay!" Missile Kid cheered. The four of them had adopted her after her mother, the Killjoy leader, had been Drac'ed, and given the girl a proper Killjoy name.
"Done!" Ghoul cried after a few minutes. He forgot to crawl out from under the Trans Am before he raised his head, and he bumped it on the underside of the car with an, "Oww." The others chuckled, and Ghoul scurried out from under the car and jumped up. "I'm alright," he said quickly, rubbing his head. "Oh Frankie..." Poison said affectionately.
Poison took the driver's seat, Kobra the passenger, and Jet and Ghoul in the back, with Missile Kid between them. The driver tuned the radio until he found the right station -- Doctor D's station. "Na Na Na" was on the radio, and Poison smiled fondly, recalling the times he and the others had performed the song in their band My Chemical Romance, before BLInd had taken over.
They drove in silence, until suddenly Missile Kid shouted, "Hey! Look!" The outburst startled Gerard so much that he veered right sharply, driving off the dune. As the Trans Am flipped through the air, Kobra and Poison grabbed each other for security, and Jet grabbed Missile Kid, and Ghoul simply grabbed the back of Poison's seat. "WHOAAAAAAAA!!!"
With a crash, the Trans Am landed perfectly upright, jarring its passengers' bones. "That..." Poison started. "Was..." Kobra added. "Horrible," Jet finished, as Ghoul and Missile said "EPIC!" simultaneously.
"What the heck was so important to look at that we nearly DIED?" Poison turned to glare at Missile Kid, who shrank back. "Well, I saw some other Killjoys... they looked like they'd set up a camp," she said timidly. "Other Killjoys?" Poison relaxed. "Well, I suppose we could check them out." A small, nagging thought entered his mind: What if... but he pushed it away.
The Fabulous Four and their adopted child climbed out of the car, still a little shaken, and up the hill. Across the road they'd been driving on, a small encampment with four tents had been set up. Two Killjoys were sitting on logs, while another started a fire.
"Hey," Poison greeted them, feeling a little awkward. "Whoa! You're..." the Killjoy starting the fire looked up; he had black hair with white tips, a white jacket with black polka-dots, and black jeans. Kind of monochromatic, but he still seemed Killjoy-ish. "The Fabulous Four? Yep, that's us," Ghoul said proudly. "Who might you be?"
"I'm Domino Explosion, and the others are my adopted brother, Shadow Ghost..." (he looked like the polar opposite of Domino, down to his dark skin color) "and my... friend, and graffiti artist, Pixel Cloud." (a girl with jagged orange hair, a white jacket splashed with paint, red leggings, and knee-high black boots.) "Oh, and Lyn-Z," Domino added.
"Lyn-- like, Lyndsey?" Poison asked, incredulous. "The only Killjoy who's true name is in their Killjoy name," Domino grinned.
"You called?" someone asked, jokingly. Another girl pushed aside one of the tent flaps and peered out. Her black hair was done up in pigtails, and she wore a maroon tank top with fishnet sleeves and black fingerless gloves. A short black skirt and ripped jeans completed her look. She noticed Poison and smiled a lip gloss smile. "After all these years... it's you."
"L... Lyndsey? You've changed," Poison said incredulously. "You have too," Lyn-Z replied, shrugging. "I'd always assumed you got Drac'ed, or killed, or brainwashed into an unfeeling zombie," Poison mused. "I'm too smart for that!" Lyn-Z grinned slyly.
She turned back to the other Killjoys. "Domino, Shadow, Pixel... thank you for your hospitality, but I think I'm gonna stay with them." She motioned towards the Fab Four. "Of course! It was great meeting you all," Shadow said. "Yeah," Pixel added. She looked deep in thought. "This meeting has given me some inspiration for a new mural, anyways. I'll head out and draw it tomorrow."
With their goodbyes said, the Fab Four, Missile Kid, and Lyn-Z headed back to the diner, a comfortable silence hanging over them. Once they arrived, Poison opened the door for Lyn-Z, and Kobra's wry expression made him chuckle.
Once they'd all entered, something struck Poison. "Lyn-Z! I... uh..." she turned to look at him, and he blushed slightly, a wave of embarrassment washing over him. He quickly extended a hand, holding out the daffodil. Lyn-Z smiled and accepted his gift, weaving it into her hair beside her ear. "Someone's got a girlfriend," Kobra whispered. Poison smacked his shoulder affectionately. "Shut up."
I'll end this here. Hope you enjoyed the break from the gay and the beginning of this "Straight A" fanfic :D
