CHARLOTTE
TUESDAY, SEP 7TH, 2020
It was the day after I had gone to the bookstore. I had woken up surprisingly early this morning so i put a little extra effort into getting ready. Madi wasn't catching the bus today, she messaged me earlier saying her dad was dropping her off at school later during the day because she had to go to the dentist. When I got on the bus I plugged both my headphones in and slowly began to drift off to a whole other world. I didn't even notice that Louis had gotten on the bus until I saw him smile at me as he got off. I walked to my locker and pulled out my schedule, I had math first ugh great I thought to myself. I slammed my locker shut and made my way to class.
It was now last session and finally after waiting the whole day it was time to go to English. As soon as I walked into class I saw a familiar face. It was his. Fortunately enough my seat was right in front of his so I went and sat down. As the bell went I felt the figure behind me lean towards me whispering in my ear "I saw you on the bus this morning, I thought you looked really pretty." I grinned widely at his words as they made me get butterflies in my stomach. "why didn't you say hi" i replied. "you had both your head phones in and you looked completely zoned out so i thought I'd just leave you to it" he smiled, i slightly giggled.
It was around 10 minutes before the bell to signal the end of the day and the teacher was assigning us our first assignment of the year. "Class I'm going to pair you up and i want you and your partner to decide on a book and then i want you to both analyse it." I felt something poke me in the back so i turned around figuring it was Louis. "Louis, Charlotte since you both are getting along so well I figured you two could pair up, i hope you both do actually get some work done instead of messing around." The teacher announced in front of the whole class. Louis grinned "will do miss."
As the bell rang I picked up my things and put them in my bag to take home. "So who's house are we gonna go to, to do the assignment." Louis said. "We can go to mine but i have 2 little brothers to deal with so don't get mad if we don't get a lot done." I said remembering that my mum was going to be away for the next week on a girls trip. "Sweet" Louis said.
As we got off the bus and I unlocked my door I walked inside and he followed me upstairs to my room. I dumped my bag onto my bed and pulled out my notebook. I figured River and Elliot wouldn't be home until later so I tried to get the assignment done as fast as possible so that I still would have time to cook them dinner before they get home.
Louis just stood there scanning my room, looking at all the sketches on my wall. "woah, did you draw all these" he said. "uh yeah, it's just something I do when I get bored." I said back. "They're so good, so are you like interested in art or something" he asked "kind of" i replied "i like designing, i'm not a big fan of arts and crafts and stuff though." I said. "I like to paint" he replied. "really" I said back quite surprised by what the boy had just said. "Don't look so surprised" he said with a massive grin on his face. "No I just.. i thought you'd be into like football or something" I said. "Paintings my main coping mechanism, I play football with the lads when i'm bored but it's nothing compared to my passion for painting" he said. I smiled up at him and then looked back at my notebook.
"Have you thought of a book we can write about yet" I asked. "I read this book called Divergent awhile a go, it was pretty good, have you read it?" He asked. "Yes and it was so good, we shall do that one then" I said as he smiled back at me.
His hands began to trace my bookshelf, it was only a small plank of wood that I nailed to the wall that i sat my books on. "I have read every single one of these books except the notebook." He voiced, "you're seriously telling me you've never read the notebook" I replied back shocked. "the whole romance genre just isn't my thing." He replied. "Louis. Partridge are you seriously telling me you don't believe in love." I voiced loudly with a very surprised look on my face. He grabbed the book off the shelf and came and sat next to me. "It's not that I don't believe in it, I just think it's unrealistic." He said as he looked me into the eyes. I sighed and shook my head as i began to jot down ideas for this analysis we had to write.
Suddenly I looked up "take the book with if you want" I said "what the notebook, no way" he said "come on at least give it a try, it might be better than you think, and maybe after you read it, you'll change your whole mindset on love" I said. "fine I'll give it a try but no promises that it will change my mind" he said as he looked down and smiled at me."
We worked for 2 hours just talking and writing our assignments. I learnt a lot about Louis, he was an only child and he lived with his dad, but his dad was barely at home anyways so it was pretty much just him, he loved to paint and he also, like me had read pretty much every book in the entire bookshop in London central, I quickly learned that we had more in common than I thought. It was around 5pm and as I began to walk Louis to the door to go home, I heard it unlock, it was River and Elliot, they had just come home from Joels.
River looked up at Louis with a confused look on his face and Eli just stood next to him not really understanding what was going on. "Riv, Eli this is Louis" Louis waved slightly not really knowing what to do or say. "Is he your boyfriend or something" River said looking really confused as to why there was a boy in our house that wasn't family, i never really brought people around that much except for Madi which was rarely so I think River was a little shocked when he saw a complete stranger in our living room. "god no riv, we were just working on an assignment together" i heard Louis chuckle slightly. "Well I think I better go, it was nice meeting you both and I'll see you at school tomorrow" he said before giving me a smile and walking out the door.
"Seriously river" I said slightly annoyed with the awkwardness my brother created. "Come on you never bring people home especially boys so I didn't know what to think" he replied with a grin on his face as he started laughing. I rolled my eyes and began to laugh with him. "I was gonna make dinner but I didn't have enough time so do you guys mind if we just have leftovers." I said "it's alright, I'll warm them up now" River said.
