"yea, i'll be there soon. mhm. okay. bye bye," you ended a phone call and put your phone in your pocket. you walked your usual route to get home and skipped to the next song on the playlist you were listening to.
"ah! oof!"
you ears perked up and you paused the music.
"hah!"
you recognized that someone was getting beat up and started walking down the block to find the source of the sounds. you looked down the alleys before you heard a gunshot.
"what the hell?" you quietly spoke and froze for a second as another gunshot was fired. "he—!" all of a sudden, you were pulled into a building by someone, who had wrapped an arm around your waist and a hand over your mouth. he dragged you to the ground so he was against a wall.
"be quiet!" a guy whispered into your ear.
more gunshots were fired off and the guy finally put down the hand that was over your mouth and the arm that was around your waist.
"what the hell's going on?" you asked as he stood up. he took a gun out from his waistband.
"come on, we need to go," he said and ran towards another exit of the old building. another gunshot fired and you decided to follow him and prayed that he was leading you to safety.
"what's going on?" you asked again as you two ran down the back alleys. you guys reached a building that was near a bridge. the guy quickly picked the lock to the door and practically shoved you in before going in himself. you looked around and noticed a whole bunch of tables and chairs.
"damn, you just made my life a hundred times harder," the guy complained as he looked through the window blinds.
"what did i do?" you asked.
"you walked into the beginning of a mafia war," he answered and sighed. he closed the blinds and put his gun on the table near him.
"mafia? there's mafias?!" you exclaimed.
"be quiet!" he yelled.
"you're in one!"
"i said be quiet!" he exclaimed again.
you sat down on a random chair. you crossed your arms.
dumbass...you should've taken the bus instead of walking home...
you looked at the guy, who was looking out the window again. he closed the blinds again before taking his gun and putting it in his waistband. he took his phone out and typed something before putting his phone in a pocket that was inside his jacket.
"can i leave yet?" you asked.
"might be awhile till the coast is clear," he replied.
you just nodded and heard more gunshots, which caused you to cover your ears and duck your head.
"you'll get used to it," the guy spoke again.
"get used to it?!" you exclaimed; he shushed you again. "i was trying to walk home and then i was taken by you!" you yelled.
"i was trying to save your life!" he yelled at you and started to walk up to you. "do you even know who i am?" he stood in front of you.
"should i?" you questioned.
he sighed, "i've been one of your body guards for months."
"body guards? what do you mean?" you questioned again.
"look..." he paused, "never mind," he turned away and headed towards another window.
"you might as well finish what you were going to say," you said to him and started to slowly pace around the room. "after all, you said that this might take awhile."
"i'll just say that your father isn't who he is," the guy said.
"so let me guess. he's some big shot in your mafia, right?" you asked.
he looked at you, "he's the leader. he had me and a few others be your body guards but to never intervene with your life unless necessary." you stayed quiet. "you know park jisung?" you nodded, "yea, he's in the mafia too."
"will i be able to go home soon?" you asked.
"you're with me, you'll be fine," he slightly smiled.
"that isn't reassuring," you said.
"then you need believe me that when i say that everything will be okay," he said and walked over to the table with his gun. then, a phone rang and the guy reached into his pocket. he took his phone out and answered a call. "yea? yes. yes sir. yes sir. right away sir," he quickly hung up and looked back at you. "get up, we're leaving," he instructed.
"leaving? isn't there a gun fight going on out there?" you questioned.
"it's been quiet for awhile and your dad wants me to get you home," he said as carefully opened the door. you sighed but followed him. "stay behind me at all times," he said as you two walked out. the sun was setting as you followed the guy through back alleys. eventually, you two reached a car and he unlocked the doors. "come on," he opened the passenger side and you got in. you took your backpack off as he closed the door and walked around the car. you buckled your seatbelt as he got into the driver's seat and started up the car. he put his gun in one of the cup holders and turned the ignition on. he put his seatbelt on and kept one hand on the wheel and the other on the gear shift. he drove off and headed in the direction to your house.
"what's your name?" you looked over at him and asked.
"everyone calls me hendery," he answered.
"that's an interesting name," you commented.
"some of us have code names, like me," he mentioned and turned onto another street. minutes of silence went by as he drove to your house. once you reached your house, you saw lots of cars on the street.
hendery turned the car off and unbuckled his seatbelt. he took his gun and got out of the car. you unbuckled your seatbelt while someone opened the passenger side door. you looked over and saw jisung, one of your classmates/body guards.
"hey y/n," he slightly smiled.
"hey," you got out of the car with your backpack in one hand. you saw more people on your lawn and walked to the front door, where your parents were. "mom," you spoke and your mom immediately hugged you. "dad," you looked up at your dad once your mom stopped hugging you.
he sighed, "i'm sorry for hiding this sweetie," he apologized and hugged you. "it was for your own good." he stopped hugging you and looked at the people on your lawn. "we'll discuss additional safety measures later tonight. go back to your original posts. i'll call you back after ten o'clock and tell everyone to gather," dad announced and most of them began to leave.
you turned around and watched as hendery walked up to you and your parents. "sir."
"nice work, kunhang," your dad said to him.
"of course, sir," hendery replied.
"i'll be in the study," your dad said and you nodded your head. him and your mom went inside, leaving you and hendery relatively alone since others were still in the midst of leaving.
you reached up and kissed his cheek, "thank you," you said to him.
"of-of course, miss," he stuttered.
you knew you were blushing like crazy and practically jumped into your house. you closed the door and looked through the window. you saw hendery blushing a lot with some of the other people going up to him and asking what was wrong with him.
