~Hegan~

Of course I was chosen to tell the boys mother that he didn't make it out of training. He was one of my most promising that I have trained, and to tell his mother that he died with honor. Sadly I couldn't tell her it was because of a stupid boy that had been trained else where that was responsible for the lack thereof. Regulations and rule books protocol, that was all he recited, because of that he aided the wolf in killing him. He should have never helped the weak pathetic boy I taught him better than that, leave the weak behind. That dumb boy had no business being there. Because of this I'm forced to give news I never wanted to give a mother, a single one at that.

All the more it didn't change the fact that her son has been dead for a couple days. Poor woman thought that he was at battle for that long. I wasn't in any hurry to break the news to her. To be quite honest I put it off as long as I could figuring out a way to give peace. The boys body was torn apart pretty badly I didn't want her to see that. I had to buy myself time to figure out how I was going to give her something of the boys, his remains. It hit me I could burn it and give the ashes to her in an urn. Sad really we hadn't been able to retrieve the body until last night with that crazed wolf inside. Now what was left was to give the remains to her, well what was left that we could find.

I called for my prized wolf, he came right away like he always did. Indeed despite the fact he was one of those damned dogs I admired his love of the fight. Because of him we were able to hold this war against the other three opposing sides. He raised his ears awaiting my command. He had a dangerous look in his eyes and I knew he was ready for the fight. Grabbing the urn I signaled for him to follow me.

"A quick stop to deliver this and then we are off to battle." I told him watching as he held his head high, I could practically see the glee he was in.

We passed many other keepers some with their newly trained teaching them the basics of being a master. It wasn't something that could be taught wolves know those who hold fear. Therefore they attack rather than listen even with our technology there were things that needed to be worked on. Not all of it worked on them thank god they didn't figure it out yet otherwise it would be complete mayhem. Despite that it still took skills to be able to communicate what you wanted of them. To establish your dominance to make them submit to you without let up was the making of a true master.

As of right now many masters walked along with their wolves, some showing them off or challenging other wolves for power. No one dared to challenge my wolf, he was the most powerful outside of that damned wolf that had yet to be tamed. Other wolves cowered around him scared to be near him. All the boys being trained looked in awe at the wolves and masters.

Hawke growled bringing me from my thoughts, I knew who it was the moment he did it. Funny that my wolf hated the man I hated, his thick headedness and coward like qualities set me off.

"Hegan, long time no see." His gruff voice spoke irritating the shit out of me. If I could I would hit him or send Hawke to go off on him. "What brings you over here? You never come to the north side, always locked away with the dogs."

That earned a growl from the wolf he didn't like when other humans used the word around him. That much I could figure out didn't take a genius.

"Business." I thought it best to keep my answers short and to the point. Groves always brought out a side of me that even hell wouldn't want to keep.

At this time his wolf decided to come out of the protection from behind his master and join in and try to face off my wolf. There was no way in hell he could take on my beast, he was as much a coward as Groves.

"When are you going to let Zay here take on.... Hawke was it?" His mocking was starting to get a rise out of both of us. "You know Zay is top dog, Master really likes him, he just needs to show your mutt who is boss. Then he can take his rightful place and hawk here can take his role as little bitch."
