Chapter 17 Mate & Messages

Finally I broke through the forest, the moon lighting the way, yet I had a ere feeling come over me. Someone was watching me, I don't know from where but I was certain of it. I sniffed the night air trying to locate any scent I could but nothing. Whoever they were they must be down wind of me, but I could not waste any more time. I had to lose them.

When I felt there was no one there I went to the gates of the enclosure. The keepers let me in eyeing wondering why I was back again the second time today, but they wouldn't dare question it. Master often gave me orders to do things and never liked being disturbed. They were further out to where their den was and that's when I realized why the female smelt different. She was finally mated to the wolf but not fully yet, and it would not be now either. I let out a howl alerting him that I was here trying to mind link him.

Mind linking a royal must have been harder to do or he just did not like me at all. I could hear him growl and the static began to come in before it slowly cleared up. He walked out of the den but the female did not follow.

'What news do you have?' His voice came in loud in clear.

'They are experimenting on the wolves, they are starving and barely have room to walk. Even the pups are kept in small cages, some of them dead.'

Mimas growls shaking the ground beneath causing the birds to fly away and the female to whimper. She peaks her head out but never comes outside the den eyeing me her head held high. I could feel her trying to push into my mind so I allowed her. 'Royal.' I nod towards her in respect. She does not say anything to me, I guess she just wanted to ensure that her mate was fine. I lower my head in respect as he paces back and forth eyeing me.

'Were you able to find out how they are experimenting?' He asked.

'It looks like they are injecting something into their blood, but before I could see more men came. I didn't want to risk not getting information for you. There is a dragon in a tower by the name of Avis, she awaits your command.' I state everything that I have seen.

'Avis is an old acquaintance, let's hope the old one offers assistance rather than deceit. Why do I not sense her here?' He stopped pacing walking closer to me.

'The humans have stolen her light, I freed her but she waits for your order and to gain new light.'

'Then pass the message onto her.' His head rested onto mine and I felt a jolt and a cooling blue light that went through me. I could feel a cooling sensation inside my head that swirled around. 'Avis will know what to do with it.'

Lowering my head in respect I took off to the exit, when I got there they seemed to not want me to pass. They opened the gate but held out the electric tasers they used to keep us in line. One guard aided me into a small cage as the others called on a radio for Master. They waited for him to respond which I did not catch anything they said after that. Zay was walking around sniffing for something, hopefully it was not my scent otherwise I was screwed. He took off the opposite way thankfully but I made a note to follow up on whatever he had just found.

Master showed not looking pleased at all with me and glared at all the men. "You called me for this? You know he often does orders that I command him." Master spoke he seemed better than when I left him.

"We're sorry we just wanted to make sure that this dog was not just walking around without orders." The guard said unhooking the gate, I growled snapping at his hand for using the word dog. "Can you restrain that damn thing, he bit me." He held his injured hand with the other, I barely bit him.

Master eyed him, shaking his head. "You stuck your hand in harm's way so it's your fault you got struck. Plus you still have a hand. There is no harm done here, put a bandaid on it and get over it." Master spat signaling me to follow him so I did.

How was I going to get out of this Master could not know what I found because I'm sure he would do something stupid. There had to be a way to get away from him because if he locked me up things would not be good. I sensed that this Royal would not be pleased if I did not get it done soon. Honestly whatever he put into my head I wanted it gone it was starting to feel odd.

Master turned towards me after we were out of earshot. "What were you doing in there? I did not give you orders to go inside of there. Did you find where else the scent went?" He asked and I nodded my head. "Take me there."

This was going to be a long night I could already tell.

The brown wolf left and we walked under the night sky. The questions continued to flood my mind after that brown wolf called Sirius called me Royal. Why would he address as that and even say mate when he thought of me? I guess I would have to ask questions if he was not going to offer information to me.

'Who is Avis and what did you do to that wolf?' He looked over his shoulder and back again as he continued on.

'A dragon. Sirius is sending a message to her from me.'

'I did not know dragons still lived here.' Strange it was told by many that they left to never return again.

'Some still remain here, not all left.' He stated without giving up any more information.

I would revisit the topic later on but for now I needed other answers. 'Why did you mark me?' I asked.

'It was the only way to calm your beast.'

It was like a knife to my heart. That's it, not because he wanted to? I stopped walking alongside him and he paused a few steps ahead of me. Then what, was I even worth anything to him? He did after all protect me from the humans and keep me warm. Was there another objective?

'Over thinking only creates problems that aren't there.' His voice sternly rang in the link.

'Good questions to ponder. I'm your mate now aren't I? But I'm more now.' There was no way he could deny this very fact.

'Yes you are my mate now, you are a Royal and soon you will grow into your power.' He growled shaking the trees around us. 'That wolf had no business linking you that in the first place.'

'Was I ever going to know what I am to you? Or what you plan to do to help all wolves escape?'

He didn't reply and continued walking off in the woods.

'Do not ask me questions about this anymore. Perhaps we should part here, I'll come when your body needs me.' He said before shutting off the link completely.

I could've easily followed him but I let it be for now, eventually he would have to face it and explain exactly what it is that was happening. He was stuck with me which means even if they parted us we would never be able to be with another. I was beginning to think that he had some other objective. Was marking me an accident?

Royal wolves didn't and couldn't be caught by humans nor wolves themselves. The important question to ask him would be, why mark any female at all? He couldn't deny the fact he was connected to me nor the pull we now had.

No, he was planning something big with this dragon he now knew about. More so I don't think marking me was part of his plan. Which caused me to wonder where I stood after this was all over. On another note he needed to open up and tell me things. Being his mate naturally I would want to know everything about him.

Aimlessly walking around with no destination in mind I stumbled upon the human walls. Their scent overwhelmed me almost to the point I could pick up where each of them were. Even their heartbeats were loud, fluttering rapidly. The gates were being opened and human footsteps could be heard coming in.

"Lets go we have to retrieve that black wolf. Everyone be on guard, he is lethal and must be caught at all cost." The keeper stated.

It angered me all over again, my beast coming through at the fact someone else wanted to take what belonged to me. They were going to try and take him from me but they would fail.
