Dreams Have Many Parts

To draw had always been a dream

and there was talent enough to achieve

but not to succeed.

Other priorities, like room and board

and dreams of a different kind

that required a steady compensation.

Responsibilities appeared, desired

but unexpected as the timing

kept my dream at bay.

Something pulled inside my heart,

a need far too insistent to ignore

and a different dream was born.

A change that satisfied a spirit

needing to be free without sacrificing

obligation yet sating that original desire.

A new status for my status quo,

an outlet for my dreams to grow in

a desert far away yet near to all.

And it lasted long enough to satisfy those

early yearnings, allowing me to coast

and enjoy what became the dreams of others.
