I Blinked
I blinked and there you were.
A second earlier all I saw were flashing lights
and barmaids screaming to be heard above the pulsing din,
But then the music pounding in my skull went silent
and the lights shone only on your face.
I could not speak, just stutter like a pre-pubescent boy,
embarrassed and made mute.
I fled and mumbled "bathroom,"
cursing silently my clumsy fear.
I washed my face in sadness knowing you'd be gone.
Returning to the bar, I blinked and there you were;
a smile upon your face that quickly spread to mine.
