hyejin screams as she enters the bathroom. she pulls her son out of the bath tub.

yongsun does cpr on taehyun as hyejn hurriedly calls after an ambulance. they're both in shock, fighting back the tears.

taehyun sputters and chokes on the bath water he spits up. yongsun puts him on his side, so he can cough it all up with ease. 

"taehyun," hyejin sobs, "raindrop, i'm so sorry." 

she falls to her knees by yongsun's side, stroking her boy's head. taehyun doesn't say anything, instead he vomits onto the bathroom tiles. and yongsun rubs his back as he begins to cry. 

"he's breathing," hyejin says into her phone to the dispatcher on the other end of the line.

"he's looking at us with open eyes, but his skin is pale and his hands are blue." her voice cracks and she chokes back a sob. taehyun looks at her with worried eyes. how could he have done this? 

the vomit smells foul and the two women try their best to clean it off the floor. 

"taehyun?" yongsun asks as he tries to sit up. she helps him sit upright and he wraps his arms around her. 

"i'm glad you and mommy came. thank you, mum." taehyun whispers, coughing quietly. yongsun gasps a little, taehyun had never adressed her as his parents before. 

hyejin hugs them both tightly. the sound of sirens approaches and yongsun lets go of them. she stands up to let the paramedics inside. 

    

 

 
       
 
taehyun cries the entire ride to the hospital. holding his mommy's hand tightly, he never wants to let go. 

"i'm so sorry." 

"don't be sorry, raindrop. you've been going through a hard time and we haven't looked after you properly. we should be apologizing." hyejin says, running her fingers across her son's knuckles. 

"i'm sorry, tyun." yongsun says, wrapping her arm around his shoulder. 

"i'm so happy we came in time, raindrop. i thought we'd lost you for a minute." 

"how did- how did you know?" taehyun sobs, tightening his grip around his mum's hand. 

"beomgyu called me. he said that you'd sent him a weird message. and he immediately knew something was wrong. and that we had to rush home," 

 

  

  
 

  
the next week passes at the speed of light. all taehyun does at the hospital is sleep, eat pudding cups and go to his daily therapy session. he isn't allowed any visitors, except his mums. plus his phone is confiscated, so he can't reassure soobin or huening kai that he is indeed alright. 

taehyun understands why they confiscate shoelaces and earrings, but his phone? he's really desperate for it right now. 

but on the rainy wednesday, almost two weeks after trying to end his life, his best friends are finally allowed to visit. 

an anxious yeonjun is the first to enter taehyun's hospital room. his eyes are watery, which is unusual. the older doesn't really know what to say, instead he cracks a teary smile. 

"you're so strong, tyun." yeonjun says, wiping his tears as quickly as they fall. 

"you guys can come in too," he laughs, turning around to look out the door. huening kai and soobin hold each others hand as they poke their heads into the room. 

"hi!" taehyun says, smiling at them with an iv-drip in his arm feels almost embarrassing. 

"hyung-" huening kai's voice cracks as he calls for him. the tall boy strides into the room, towards taehyun. his curls bounce on his head and the tears slowly roll down his cheeks. 

taehyun opens his arms happily as the giant embraces him carefully. as if he's scared the older will fall apart as he touches him. 

"i'm so happy you stayed with us." huening kai cries quietly and taehyun closes his eyes. the hospital room smells of lemon scented surface cleaner and get-well-soon flowers from the room across the hall. 

but huening kai smells like himself, cheap deodorant and laundry detergent. it's a nice change of environment. 

taehyun opens his eyes as he lets go of the hug. soobin hides behind his boyfriend, leaning his forehead on his shoulder. he doesn't want taehyun to see him cry. 

"hyung." taehyun chuckles, "soobin hyung, come out. let me hug you."

yeonjun huffs out a laugh as he guides soobin towards the hospital bed. the tallest has puffy eyes and his legs wobble as he walks towards the hospital bed. 

soobin hugs him carefully with one arm. and tmas they let go, taehyun looks around for his last friend.

"beomgyu couldn't make it." soobin says, pushing up his glasses and taehyun looks up at him with axious eyes. 

"he's suspended and his step-mum grounded him when he got home after that day." soobin says with a pout. 

"suspended? what happened?" taehyun asks worriedly. 

"he smashed that substitute's car window after he heard what happened." huening kai explains, having seen it with his own two eyes. 

"and then she grounded him for no reason." yeonjun huffs and soobin scoffs.

"i know you don't like her, i don't either, but he did damage someone else's property."

"that asshole deserved all his car windows smashed." huening kai says, clenching his fists. 

"but anyways, he wanted me to give this to you." soobin says, revealing a teddy bear he has been hiding behind his back. he carefully hands it  to taehyun, who takes it with a small smile.

the trio stays for a while. they talk about school, a film soobin and yeonjun saw at the cinema, huening kai's dropping grades and even ryujin's new haircut. 

but visiting hours end too quickly and taehyun feels sad as he waves the others goodbye from his depressing hospital bed. he feels a little sad as he kicks his feet, hearing the three make their way down the halls. 

taehyun closes his eyes, wondering if beomgyu is okay at home. he hopes he sticks up for himself against his step-mum and that she hasn't taken his night lamp. taehyun prays beomgyu isn't scared and alone, like him. 

taehyun squeezes the teddy bear at the thought of beomgyu being scared. it scares him too. he anxiously fiddles with the clasp on the corduroy pocket on the teddy bear's chest. 

the sound of rustling paper fills his ears as he continues to play around with the gift from beomgyu. he unbuttons the pocket and pulls out a folded piece of paper. 

taehyun unfolds it, revealing beomgyu's bad handwriting and adorable heart doodle. and as he reads the note, he has to fight back tears, because all he wants is beomgyu. 

i'm sorry. i should've stayed with you until your mum came home. taehyun, i love you so much. in the future i promise i'll make sure that we're always too close together.
