The forest was calm right after the dawn light had kissed the colors into being. Clarke sat outside camp, her backpack ready to leave. A week had passed since the Mount Weather genocide. Everything was at peace now, there were no more mountain men to terrorize the grounders and sky crew and Lexa hadn't sent her army to attack. It was peaceful but Clarke wasn't at peace.
Yes, she'd saved her people but at the expense of a whole group of other people, she annihilated them all. The guilt of the genocide was burdening her and it was made worse by the way her people looked at her. They showed gratitude but there was something else they portrayed whenever Clarke was around, fear. They were fearful of her and what she was capable of doing just to survive.
" Clarke, going out on a hunt on your own?" Bellamy questioned her while approaching where she stood. He was one of the few people treating Clarke like a normal person and the leader that she was to them. They'd grown distant after the genocide. Clarke wanted her space and Bellamy let her have it. Each day seemed to be adding more strain to their relationship, it ended before it even actually began.
" Im leaving camp Bell. I...I cant stay here not after what I....."
" What we did Clarke. We. Not you." Bellamy interrupted her. " You dont have to carry the burden alone. We're in this together."
" I bear it so you dont have to,"
" But I want to, you dont have to do this alone." Bellamy said touching Clarke but she flinched at his touch.
" Please Bell, just let me be." Clarke said, moving away adding distance between them. " Take care of them for me."
Bellamy had tried being there for Clarke but it obviously seemed she didnt need anyone at the moment. " Where will you go?" He asked pain in his voice.
" I dont know, anywhere but here. Whenever I look at the people I saved everyday..it reminds me of the lives I took to get them here."
They stared at each other in an odd way, as if it were a silent argument. Their glances battled each other, until tears arose, and they found themselves crying. Clarke felt the urge to do something, to comfort him, but also herself. In a moment, she moved closer to him and pressed her lips against his, she felt his body loosen and arms circling her waist. Her brain lit on fire and the warmth spread through her entire body. She was addicted to him that much she knew, for a split second she thought about not leaving but then she remembered she had to. Reluctantly she pulled away from him and whispered in his ear, " may we meet again," before leaving him there alone.
