14 years ago, October 5th, 3 PM

"How does it feel to be 11 now, Singnie?" Bora asked her best friend. They were sitting on a bench in one of the royal gardens.

"It feels great! I am officially more than a decade old!" Siyeon replied.

"I still can't believe that on YOUR BIRTHDAY you wanted to teach ME to ride a horse," Bora laughed. "It's so hard," she pouted.

"Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it soon. Just follow my techniques as usual, okay?" The two girls then proceeded to run to the stables.

During their little journey, Bora felt that something was missing in her robe pocket. She turned around to see Siyeon eating her pretzel.

"Hey!! That's mine!!" Bora protested. She tried to grab it from Siyeon, but it was useless.

"You're so short, Bora!" Siyeon laughed. "This is mine now!"

"Not on my watch, Singnie!" Bora jumped onto Siyeon and tickled her.

"AH! THAT TICKLES! STOP IT, BORA-YA!" Siyeon was laughing uncontrollably while Bora triumphantly grabbed the half-eaten pretzel out of her friend's hands, ate it all in two bites, and smirked.

"Don't underestimate me," Bora said, pinning Siyeon to the ground with her leg. However, Siyeon flipped Bora off to tower her instead.

"Don't underestimate ME! Look who is trained by an actual knight here," Siyeon grinned. "Too bad that delicious pretzel is already gone."

The two girls finally reached the stables. They were trying to choose which horses they would ride, but were interrupted by Siyeon's father, dressed in the dark red armor of the powerful Neverland Kingdom.

"We need to go RIGHT NOW!" Siyeon's father grabbed Siyeon's arm.

"But why?" Siyeon refused and pulled away from her father's grip. Her father often interrupted her fun with Bora, but this time his tone was more serious. She noticed that he had a small bruise on his forehead. Something was wrong. Bora noticed that, too, and stepped closer to Siyeon.

"Princess, may I have a word with Siyeon? Alone." Without waiting for a reply, Siyeon's father took Siyeon inside. Bora was about to eavesdrop, but Siyeon shook her head and shut the door.

"I have to commit to more duties to our kingdom. Relations between the Queen's advisors are getting worse. We have to go! Now! You have to stop seeing the Princess and train harder!" Siyeon's father told her.

"But I don't like Neverland Kingdom! It's so boring and the people are mean there! I wanna stay here with Bora in Insomnia Kingdom!"

"What did you say?!?" Siyeon's father slapped her face, hard. Siyeon flinched at the pain, but she was used to it. It happened often. "You dared to insult your kingdom?! I taught you everything I know, so you could serve Queen Soyeon faithfully! We are leaving, NOW, and I don't want to hear a word from you until you become an honored Neverland knight and serve your Queen! The Princess is a distraction to you!"

"No! Please don't take me away from Bora!" Siyeon protested and grabbed her father's leg. "I beg you! She's my only friend!"

"Friends don't last forever. Deal with it. I won't let her see you again, even if she is a princess, for she is a mere distraction. You need to know where you are from. Even if I wanted to prevent this, I couldn't, so follow me." Siyeon's father coldly replied. Siyeon nodded. She couldn't do anything to prevent this, nor her father. She had to lose her only friend, her only source of happiness...

"I have to go, Bora. I can never see you again... Goodbye..." Siyeon and her father returned to Bora. Bora saw the sadness in Siyeon's eyes, though tears weren't coming out. In reality, Siyeon tried to withdraw the tears in front of her father, who taught her to be strong.

"No!! Is this true? Is this really happening? No... it can't be..." Bora ran to Siyeon, trying to pull her free from her father, but Siyeon hung her head and refused. Bora started to cry, but kept on trying to pull Siyeon away from her father's grip.

"No!! Not my Singnie! But why?!? Why?!?" Bora cried. Guards rushed into the room, hearing Bora's outburst. "Guards! I order you to stop that man!"

"We are sorry, Princess Bora, but we have to let him go," a guard said. He pulled Bora away from Siyeon. His heart ached at the sight of separating the two friends, but he had no choice either. Siyeon's father wasn't doing anything wrong, and the guards knew the reason why Siyeon had to go.

"LET ME GO! Singnie, please don't leave!" Bora was bawling and desperately tried to bite the guard's arms, but he was wearing metal armor and it was ineffective.

"Goodbye, Bora..." Siyeon said, with tears finally running down her face. Her father walked to the castle gates, leaving for good. Bora, still trapped in the stables, was crying so much that the grass she was near started to grow taller. A few minutes later, when the guards were certain that Siyeon had left the castle, they released Bora. She ran all the way to the castle gates, but found no traces of her best friend. Knowing that it was too late, she kneeled down on the cold marble floor and cried for hours. She refused to leave that spot for three days straight, until she got sick due to lack of nutrients and fainted. Bora just didn't know why. They were inseparable. They promised to get through everything together. Just why did she have to go? What was so important that she had to stop seeing her altogether?

=====

Siyeon was finally crying as much as Bora was, far away from the castle. Bora was the only person who would comfort her when she was abused by her father. Even her kindhearted mother, who introduced her to Bora, could not do anything to stop Siyeon's father. Now, Siyeon would have to stay in Neverland Kingdom for the rest of her life, never being able to see Bora. Even worse, she was trapped with her father, who was the reason why her life was turned upside down. She knew Royal Advisor Soojin had gained more power and support, and eventually there would be a power struggle, leading to corruption and war. Politics confused her at this young age, but she was old enough to understand some parts. Besides, she watched a lot of plays with Bora that had many power struggles and wars between imaginary kingdoms in them. Even if it took 5 years or 20, her father would go away to fight in a war, and she would escape back to Insomnia Kingdom. She just didn't know when. But when the time came, she would become a knight for Insomnia Kingdom. She would exact revenge on her father, who ruined her life. All she needed to do was wait.
